Alfa Romeo Mito

Anyone own one of these or have any thoughts?

I went for a test drive in the 155 BHP 1.4 petrol engine yetserday and got to say I was very impressed...

I realise these haven't been out very long and know Alfa's can have a bit of a reputation regarding reliabilty..  Does anyone know if these issues are now resolved on the newer cars?

Any thoughts, suggestions, experience greatly appreciated..

Thanks

IIRC the Mito shares it's chassis with the Grande Punto and VX Corsa, plus if it's the 1.4 Turbo engine then I believe that's from the Punto too.  I'd anticipate the reliability to be fairly proven since it's efectively a re-badged Fiat. :)

Richard,

Like you was a bit sceptical about Mito, but have to say very impressed.  :)  :)

Was looking to change Kimberley's aging Ka. Looked at the usual stuff - C3, Swift, Corsa, Fiesta, Clio etc. Compared to the Alfa, they all seemed a bit bland.

Kimberleys is the basic 1.4 Tourismo - but it seems to have good spec compared to the others, and goes well. Insurance is not much more expensive than her Ka. :D  :D

Very good deals with scrappage enhancement.  :D  :D

PS - it's now around a month old & nothings fell off/broken/stopped working - so perhaps it will be OK  :p  :p

Hope this helps

Hi everyone, it's Kimberley on dad's login!!

I absolutely love it.. It's nice to be driving round in something that people don't really recognise!!

I would completely recommend it (but only in 'alfa red,' of course!!)

No reliability problems so far (touch wood) and the little DNA switch is useful if you want to burn out any chavs at traffic lights!!

One problem, if you have it in the dynamic mode, it seems to use a lot of fuel!! However, the normal mode seems to do me fine anyway (even for the basic model, it seems to accelerate quite fast  :0 )

The inside is a lot nicer than any other car you can get for the same (or even more) money! - The 'generic small cars' seem to be a bit plasticy!

Hope this helps, any other questions, just ask my dad!

Kim xx

I've been looking at these and the only other real competitor is the Mini.

Interior wise the Mito wins hands down and IMO it looks better in the flesh than the piccys. It does not have the flagship model out yet that BMW do so your limited to 155hp until the GTA or equivalent comes out but I drove the 'standard' 1.4 and I thought the Mini was the more accomplished car. I thought the Mito felt a bit 'light' compared to the Mini.  While driving it I felt like I could feel the front suspension doing it's stuff but while driving the Mini seemed to be like you were driving the whole car at once.

This is just my opinion and I think the Mini is the better car overall and will hold its value better. However if I was in the market again I would buy the Mito for it's presence and interior. If I was buying the car for somebody else I would buy the Mito...not every car is a westfield and peformance etc. isn't everything in every car.

The Mito is the like the Smeg Fridge of small cars.

Al IMHO etc.

Many thanks for all your comments guys, especially John and Kimberley...   - think this has now helped us (well, Lisa)  make our mind up... :)   Sorry Kimberley, will probably be 'conservative' grey.. but do really like Alfa red!!  Just out of curiosity, did you buy new and if so what sort of discount were you able to haggle - given how new the car is it doesn't appear as though there is much to play with..

Tis really nice to know there are plenty of folk on here who are great at offering advice on non Westfield related matters...

Must also add that the guys at the Alfa dealership have also been really nice to deal with. - not at all pushy, unlike some of the other mass market dealerships.

To anybody interested, there was an S8 (as in picture fat Albert has posted) in the showroom at Knaresborough, one of only 41 in this country apparentley which was the boss's car - it was absolutely fantastic, never seen one before .. if only i had a spare £160K which apparently is the figure he had been offered cash for it (which he turned down!!) ..  Would be a lovely car to enter in class J!!!  :D  :D

Sue did the haggling (I'm too impatient - & have a tendancy to insult the salesman!!)

Alfa have a scrappage deal, so went along with that. The paint was supposed to be £500 - but I think it cost £300 in the end. Sue also got a set of alloys in the deal as well. Kimberley fluttered her eylids & got some sort of paint protection & mats. So all in all - not a bad deal

My missus got one in March - her seventh Alfa in a row. (Girl Racer!) 1.4 155 Lusso. Absolutely brilliant. Makes a nice burbly noise too. Mini is no comparison at all - no-one will think you're an Estate Agent in the Mito.

But you'll be sorry if you don't choose Alfa red. The car was designed to be that colour.
