Matt Seabrook Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Looking at getting a 37" LCD TV soon and was wondering what is worth getting. Its going to be for a second TV so top of the range is not necessary. I have a Pioneer HD Plasma for our main TV and the picture is fantastic so picture quality is more important than bells and whistles. The second TV will not have a HD connection available to it so I know this is going to reduce the quality. Also I am not a badge snob so if Whoflungdung brand is best then so be it. Quote
neilb Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 got a samsung 40" 1080p from comet £480, if u google it you can get an extra £15 off, 60,000 contrast dont think you can go far wrong Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted September 13, 2009 Author Posted September 13, 2009 Thanks Neil but 37" is going to be a bit on the big side Quote
Guest Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 samsung 37 , i think they now say its a 40 but it looks the same size to me ..... had ours for a while (back when they called it a 37) and it's fine . do an online search for av forums and measure distance to seating position from screen and it will tell you your optimum size , our lounge isn't small and we worked out a 37 gave best viewing ... i would suspect most of the 50" screens are being sat far to close to for optimum quality of viewing and are more status driven purchases Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 I have 3 LG's would not buy anything else all been perfect. Why not put a HD feed to it all mine have it's not hard to do. Quote

Firestick Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Sony Bravia all the way for me but Samsung IMO are very good if your are looking for a value alternative. Quote
ljsanders Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 About 2 years ago I bought a Samsung LE37M87 1080p which was the top end 37inch back then.... with its piddly 7000:1 contrast, its still pretty good now! I've now moved it to my bedroom and I bought a Series 8 40inch Samsung for the living room, 70000:1 contrast, my hand is thicker than it and its very surprisingly how far LCD's have come since I bought the M87. Its b****y marvellous, perfect clear picture and 1080p blu-ray movies are awesome. Only thing is, it collects dust rather well and if you've got a light in front of the screen then you'll probably see its reflection in the screen. Quote
