Firestick Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Probably been done to death so apologies in advance. Looking for a decent helmet that will not break the bank but will alos get me on track rather than be refused as I have a trackday or two lined up. Any suggestions out there? Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 It's been discussed quite a bit in the past so try doing a quick search, but the fit of the helmet is just as important as price and what's comfortable for one person may not suit your head. I'd never bought a helmet before I got the Westfield so I made a special trip up to Demon Tweeks and tried on over 20 helmets while there. You'd be supprised how different they all felt. For trackdays I think a bike lid is ok but hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along in a little while to tell you what standards to look for. If you plan to do any sprinting or the speed series then you'll be needing a car specific helmet. Quote
Tom Frankland (T3OMF) Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I brought on of these last year, did break the bank But as you will find, you are best to go to the shop and try the helmets on Quote
Mid life crisis Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Firestick as has been said before, buy the best you can afford, unless you feel your head is only worth the protection of a budget bike helmet. Its there to ensure your safety !!!!! Motor sport car spec would be good. just don't have the blue book to hand. Quote

alex205 Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Hi look at a V2 helmet it is SNELL 2005 approved which is the current MSA standard the BS standard is being phased soon if not this year ie the OMP Veloce I tried on loads of helmets at the Autopsort show and i found them to be comfortable and at £140 very good value. I dont disagree with the statement about a £10 head = £10 helmet but horses for courses if you are going to be racing every weekend then you need to spend £400+ on an Arai.... but for the occassional track day then a SNELL approved helmet I would suggest should be fine After all the £140 and £400+ helmets all meet the same standard, now if SNELL start publishing % scores then you can make a more subjective assessment. I am going to be buying a TKM kart in the next few months and will be buying a V2, if and when i go racing I shall then buy an Arai. Alex Quote
mavhh Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 >> in the next few months and will be buying a V2 << Good luck... I've been trying to buy one for months now. They are constantly out of stock - suspiciously so. I'm on the brink of giving up and looking for something else. Unless, of course, you know an alternative supplier? hint hint Dave Quote
JeffC Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Ive got a V2 Pro (£140) snell approved for racing and I think its fine, Ive had a simpsons (stiglid) that was 3 times the price and that was absolute s***e ps the man I got my v2 off had loads in stock but he did put the price up after I got mine as he seemed to be the only guy with stock of then Quote
alex205 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 look on dartford karting website their website has a number of sizes still in stock ( they were the only company to buy some apart from the main co that bought them in) when i tried them on at the autosport show they were selling fast but the 2 people who were bringing them in said they had a new shipment due in April/May this may have been delayed? Try dartford karting though Quote
Firestick Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 I had spotted these helmets as a decent buy, but absolutely no one has them in stock, apparently this has been the case for months now!! If anyone hears of any available let me know. Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I have a cheapy Nitro one off ebay - for my one track day a year it will do just fine I bought mine really just to stop the buffeting TBH so safety was not the issue I may upgrade to something better next year if I get the track day bug Quote
