WindyWesty Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Recently upgraded Westy to 2.0XE. What oil do you use/recommend? Cheers. Quote
Blatman Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I use 15W50 Valvoline Turbo V, and change it twice a year. No track mileage though, otherwise I'd change it more. My Vx is bog standard apart from some QED Q42H cams with hydraulic tappets and a crank with ARP rod bolts. Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I use Millers CFS 10w40 which is a fully synthetic oil but my engine is high spec and raced. I stick with 10w40 as thats what Vauxhall recommended and I run an oil cooler. Quote
stu999 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Standard recommended is 10w/40. I use fully synthetic 5w/40 -with plenty of hard trackday use - but with an essentially standard motor (other than TB's). Why put thicker oil in and waste power? Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Because Blatman doesn't drive very fast loosing a bit will not hurt Stu Quote
Blatman Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I run thicker oil to make up for not having a 6 speed gearbox Quote
Paul Ash Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I use Millers CFS 10W60 fully synthetic as recommended by SBD who have supplied the majority of the engine components. I used it in my old set up "wet sump" mainly road with a few track days (no oil cooler) & Still use it in the new engine "Dry sump" with modified pistons cams etc etc Quote
Guest Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I use Multilife Competition 10W/50 Fully Synthetic oil from Morris Lubricants in Shrewsbury. My engine is similar to Blatters - and I found that the hydraulic tappets clattered like mad with a lot of other oils I tried over the years - Morris seems to do it from my engine. Oil pressure is good throughout an entire trackday and the tappets are happy too. BTW - but 5L on line for only £380 Quote
Blatman Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Wot he said ^^^^^^^ If you have solid lifters it's a different story Quote
cidersurfer Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I use Millers CFS 10w40 which is a fully synthetic oil 'cos Matt gets it for me... Quote

Hammy Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I'm going for Tesco value oil - its only an old car engine after all Quote

Never had issues with hydraulic tappets rattling (that was caused by the oil, anyway...) and it is cheaper than the 10w/50 too Hammy: Quote
