New Exhaust

My exhaust silencer has seen better days. I believe its a standard Westfield silencer with some sort of louvred heat shield strapped to it. The engine fitted to my car is a CVH with head/camshaft mods.

Recently, its just started tingling and rattling and is resonating quite noticeably at certain revs. Having looked at the exhaust system there is a a supporting bracket which is welded to the silencer which seems to have cracked along the weld - and it appears that the weld has been done more than once.

I'm thinking about getting a new silencer, but I would like something more aesthetically pleasing - something like a Wunoff.

Is this (hesitating before he uses the word) upgrade possible? or am I limited to the standard Westfield silencer?

Definately can be done speak to John at Wunoff tell him what you got and that you are a WSCC member. Pretty sure they will fit as well if you want, saves messing about trying to make a link pipe from manifold end to can.

I used a Wunoff re-packable silencer with my CVH for a good few years  ;)  ;) passed all noise tests and a decent piece of kit  ;)  :)  :D

I have just changed the standard Westfield exhaust on my zetec and bought a Wunoff. A lot better priced than Simpsons and a nice bit of kit. John sent me the silencer first and then I measured up for the link pipe which was reasonably easy. Speak to John as he is very helpful and knows his stuff.

Many thanks for the swift responses and the excellent advice. I'm only about 70 miles away from Bradford so I might take a drive up there. How much would one cost?

Half the price of one from Simpson's but let John tell you the price for you. More than a Fiesta exhaust but it is  a nice job and so :D unds :D  :D  :D  :D

Glad your link pipe was easy.  he tried to charge me over £200 for the link pipe.  We settled on £90.

To be fair though, nice bit of kit.

My link pipe was fairly simple and cost me £20 including delivery

Do they do collector as well?

My Manifold on my XE is the westfield one and a Westfield Silencer, but the collector for some reason, is a total abortion!

It was the system set up on the car - so whilst the manifold is reasonable I am loathe to spend silly money on a silencer and a manifold when I need the silencer, collector and link pipe.......

I'm sure they will, the bulk of their business is making systems for large commercial vehicles, John tells me he once made a complete system for an helicopter so a collector should be a piece of p**s.

Maybe while you doing that you could change collector to 4-2-1 rather than 4-1 ???

If you need primary/secondary measurements i'm sure i could run a measure over mine!

  • 2 weeks later...

Have just spoken to John at Wunoff. Said that he has run out of silencers and not making another batch till the end of September   :(  Will have to then....

He also said that he will be producing a new repackable silencer that will match the original Westfield one - therefore eliminating the need for a link pipe - which should be nice.

Hi guys,

Sorry to hijack this thread but have recently converted my CVH Westfield to the Turbocharged RS version but have been told the bore of my Westy silencer is too small, basically the turbo downpipe fits over the pipe on the can and this pipe then gets smaller and so reducing flow. Anybody know of a decent sileencer for this?

Regards :p

Having heard nothing from Wunoff I decided to seek out local exhaust specialist and had a complete new bespoke system made.

Glad I did actually, as the end product is really great and the price was very a reasonable £450.

All polished stainless steel, repackable 6" diameter silencer which nicely follows the side contours of the car. Sounds good too  ;)
