markcoopers Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 The X flow like all engines will be down to how good an example it is. If it is tiered and out of tune, it can have all the bells and whistles but be poor to drive. Typically i was say ignore the power claims, and stick with how easy it is to drive. It it pulls well from low to high revs with no flat spots etc, then it will have driving it quick on track easier and hence allow you more time to concentrate on breaking and turnin points....more fun. As a general rule of thumb, teh x flow is a tourquey motor for 1.6, but ultimately an old engine with some old technology, so often seen with modest power outputs compared with todays modern engines. Also it will more than likely be on carbs, so will have some compensation built in, so will be very different to your type r......Lower revs, a skip load of tourque, and low down punch, but will lack high end revs. However i come back to the point i made in the original post, focusing on the engine, especially when considering track biased machinery, is a fools prophercy. Please take into account the gearbox, final drive and tyers, breaks and shocks etc..... the engine could be only 120bhp, but the car could be a real flyier down to an excellent chassis, breaks, tyres, greabox and LSD set up. Please, consider the whole car, and not just an engine. Quote
