nikpro Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 What Nikpro said But with VX engine Yep; another belting engine - just looks a bit ugly IMHO; but that's being a tart! Quote
thos Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 What he said - but with a 4AGE ..... oh, and it's in my garage! I've a 4AGE, 190bhp, Quaife sequential with 1:1 top, and 4.44 limo diff. Gearing a little short at 117mph, but in 540kg, 13" R888 SG's, wide-track, quick-rack, it gets there pretty quick! Fkn great craic. Quote

Rory's Dad Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 The difference in feel between the 1600 Sigma and the 20XE I have now is significant. The propshaft for the Sigma is really short with the gearlever straight on top of the box. The back of the block is just an inch or two off the end of the footwells and it weighs just nothing. The balance felt perfect. The VX feels comparatively front heavy but it has the power to even things up a bit. The 1600 sigma felt really sweet, revvy and willing (although it was not that quick) Rory's Dad Quote
cast iron Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 by the way I'm very sceptical that that car is making 150 on the standard plenum. As for torque my car can pull away in fourth its a hoot to drive even on the public road, I have had mine for 3 years and never felt bored with the power, there isnt a country lane around where you can go flat in top anyway. If you want to just go fast up the motorway then a westfield isn't for you Im more than happy with my car/engine combination, unlike Jeff who has to keep changing them and therfore his recomendations cant be relied on Quote
Rory's Dad Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 by the way I'm very sceptical that that car is making 150 on the standard plenum. Me too - it looks just like my old one with 135bhp. Rory's Dad Quote
nikpro Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 The 1600's really suit the character of the '7' type car IMO and they are light! Say the engine is 25kgs lighter than an equivelent 2.0ltr - it was once explained in simple form to me like this: Put a 25kg barbell weight on a rope 75meters long then spin this around your body at 50mph - you can imagine that this would easily pull you off your feet but this is the extra grip you are asking from two tyres whilst going through a chicane with a heavier engine. (75 meters refers to the corner radius and 50mph refers to your speed). I currently have a Zetec with enough power and, whilst the initial thrill of the shove in the back is exciting the car is far to fast for public roads and is frustrating to drive yet not as good a track car as a 1600 cc 'fighter' The constant zip up and down the gearbox in a 1600 car is really all about driver involvement and what these cars should be about. If I was one of the 1600 boys I would be telling everyone it's crap to keep the little secret to myself! IMO you have found the ideal 'chemistry' of a 7 Quote

yellow perilous Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I'm running a 1600 sigma in a Shawspeed '7', the engine kicks out 180 bhp and is light. This winters upgrade is pocketted pistons, new inlet cam and some headwork which should take it over 200bhp. It is a superb revy engine, currently mines limited to 8,000 but hopefully with the mods it'll rev to 9,000. As mentioned the weight is the massive advantage over the cast iron boat anchor competitors. One weakness is that if you run the big ends it's a new engine, regrinds are not possible due to Fords engine construction method. So either baffle the sump substantially or go down the dry sump route. I use mine regularly on trackdays and it is happy alongside the BEC boys except the power is far more manageable ( noted by the number of BEC spins as they exit bends..!!!) So my vote is Sigma! Quote
Howard Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 None of you are helping me feel good about my decision last winter to stick with my 2.0 XE instead of going the Sigma route Nikpro's hit the nail on the head I do like my VX really. But I have the uncomfortable feeling I would enjoy something along the lines of what Nikpro describes, and Thos has, more. I do like my VX. I do like my VX. I do like my VX.... Quote

Thought a 106/saxo would be more your style to be honest. Dont want a tigra, have you seen how tall they are relative to there width, it would fall over! Quote
