scott beeland Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 As title says..,.. Are you running a 1600 Sigma engine? What's it like on the road (power delivery/ torque etc) Anyone using one in the speed series to good effect? I assume it's a fairly light engine (allowing for the fact this particular car looks to be running O/E induction) Been told of a 155 brake car that is available; and wondering whether this would be a viable option for me? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1167108.htm Ta Oh...and while we're on the "ford" subject....Does anyone know this car http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1164529.htm Quote

Its pretty bullet proof - famous last words Quote
JeffC Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 not sure about the 1600 reckon that would be a little tame but the duratec looks good value for money and ideal for an engine upgrade Quote
Mark Stanton Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Jeff - Although certainly not as much overall BHP as a "big un" - in defence of a little 1600 in a Westfield they are superb - loads of energy, revs, squirty, tractable and enjoyable road and track driving that puts you in a very competitive are in any sprint / hillclimb championship so na na na na na na na na na na yah boo and with not that much extra work 200BHP is achievable and reliable in a small 1600 (vauxhall) Quote
Jenko Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I think the Sigma is great engine.....BUT, for me I would miss the torque of more cc's.......and the weight saving would not make up for this.....on average the engine is areound 20 - 25 kgs lighter than zetec / vx....so not bad Quote
davidgh Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 and with not that much extra work 200BHP is achievable and reliable in a small 1600 (vauxhall) I would take issue slightly with the phrase "not that much extra work" to get 200hp, especially if you've got to run a catalytic converter. But, once you've got it, the driving experience is amazing. Scott -- having sprinted against Mark's "155hp" Sigma car, I can assure you that it seems a "perfectly adequate" engine for a Se7en. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 ............... - but also factor in the drivers preferred chosen target class for competition so many in the past have gone for a big un only to be "out-financed" when they end up in the bigger engine classes Which Scott has already found out in smaller engine classes it is still possible to be very competitive on a budget - step forward Stu Hill, Tim P and Donut Nunn to name but 3 Quote
Bananaman Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Scott, You'd have to throw at least £3K at either of these cars to get it any where near what you'd want! Quote
JeffC Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 indeed Mark if buying to fit into a sprinting class a 1600cc Sigma would indeed make sense a standard 2.0 durabang would be useless against the likes of nessys vx or Mr Everalls durabang Its just a shame to drive round in something unrewarding for the rest of the year, (compared to the 1hour of driving time per year you will get when sprinting for a full season) lights touch paper and hides Quote
Jenko Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 You would have to say a set of TB's should add a few extra ponies to this car (maybe up to 170bhp)....That manifold set up must be the normal restrictive ford type?...... And of course, top marks for the colour choice and black stripes.........Now, where have I seen that before Quote
Bananaman Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 This is what you want open to offers!!!! shove a set of TB's on it and a RR session Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Its just a baby lesser spotted Puma All the figures above are easily reachable and maybe even a lot more Quote
moomin Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 This is what you want open to offers!!!! shove a set of TB's on it and a RR session Have to admit, as much as I love a little revvy unit, that Cosworth does look like a super car. moomin Quote
Jenko Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 This is what you want open to offers!!!! shove a set of TB's on it and a RR session I've noticed that on PH......If I could sell mine now...I'd buy it, just seems like a cracking car...looks immaculate, and clearly well looked after......can't believe it hasn't been snapped up!. nikpro Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 This would be my engine of Choice if I was to build another Westfield. The engine is very light and very tuneable; it also revs increadably sweetly. If your happy with the size of your dangler and don't wan't/can't be arsed about throwing big BHP figures around then this engine offers everything. It won't have much torque but will rev. (If I wanted torque I could go get a V8!) I reckon as a trackday car around 180bhp from this little baby would be superb. It's probably as close as you can get to a BEC in a CEC if that makes sense? I reckon you could get the handling 'sublime' with this engine. The figure of 95kg quoted seems a touch high though but it is probably properly weighed and the weights of other engines quoted by manufacturers is optimistacally low? The dream would be a 530 kg track car with a 180bhp (220 is apparently quite acheivable) sigma engine and a sequential gearbox (won't get 'chewed' by torque) reckon this could give an R300 a really good run for it's money round a track. (P.S. I would need to put a wee fecker in it to drive it as being such a fat fecker myself would ruin it's weight distribution ) Quote
