Mark Stanton Posted August 4, 2009 Author Posted August 4, 2009 What a great turn-out for such a well respected WSCC member and SS Driver so many from so far - Rolands family really appreciated those able to attend and all the messages and flowers they have received Quote
SteveD Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 yes was a nice send off and typicaly roland ...and again a good turnout from the westfield comunity Quote
windy Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Any photo's of the Westy procession for those that couldn't make it? I will always remember the good times we all had at Le Mans fixing brake pipes on the Dutton and putting the fire out on his sisters Peugeot that he borrowed - oops sorry to spill the beans - maybe she didn't know RIP Roland & say hello to Parky for us next time you see him Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 4, 2009 Author Posted August 4, 2009 Elaine found out all the details today Graham Quote
greenandmean Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 So sorry I couldn't make it but glad Roland had a good send off among so many friends. Quote
scott beeland Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Nobby and Stint did Roland proud by having the white 7se out on the procession; joined by Don Homer in his car. Other westfields were left at home due to the rain. Quote
barney Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 just returned from being away, heard the sad news whilst away, stopped me in my tracks.. Roland was a gentleman, we will all miss him and his "brand" of humour.. i hope theres some nice lanes up there Roland.... Barney Quote
Mid life crisis Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I know this may be a little premature, but please take this suggestion as is with the greatest respect. Roland was a true gentleman as anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him will endorse. Roland avidly supported both the WSCC and the Speed Series Championship. Is it appropriate to suggest with the agreement of his family, the members of WSCC club and speed series competitors, that the club should explore the possibility of creating an award in his memory. I'm sure there will be within the membership enough people willing to donate, to enable the club to remember Roland Garratt and create an award baring his name. Quote
Scottish Bloke Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 This had crossed my mind too Steve, I'm sure it's been thought of by others too. I'm sure when the time is right an appropriate tribute will be made Quote
nlash Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 The Roland Garratt Trophy, which Roland was the first recipient, was awarded to him at this years SS awards, and the way I understood it from Messrs Algar and Stanton when they were presenting, was that it will go to a new person each year. Its nice in the respect that the trophy was devised in Rolands name when he was alive to be the first to receive it, rather than being in his memory. Quote
peterg Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 ^ that's the way we took it and quite appropriate too Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 6, 2009 Author Posted August 6, 2009 As noted the trophy is all done and sorted in Rolands Honour and who better than the man himself as first recipient. The trophy will be awarded every year for "outstanding contribution and work" The trophy is awarded to an individual at discretion of Club Chairman "The Family" and Comp Sec It's always a bonus to be present at the Awards Do and paying attention It was donated by "The Family" as Roland referred to Quote
I.S.M Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Very sad indeed; Roland was a top bloke and always happy to share a cider (when there was no other option). Always an offer of a double drive and even a night in his 'motorhome'....... A great loss. Quote
