Back in the early nineties when the Black Country Area was just starting up, I was out in my Westfield when I saw this Dutton coming towards me. I signaled to him to stop as we passed each other so I could invite him to our monthly meets. He did turn up, and has been a dedicated and loyal part of the club ever since. Perhaps the worst part for me is finding out he has passed away just as I’m about to reply to the email he sent me on the 16th of this month. I can’t answer it now but have reproduced it below because I think it says such a lot about him.

Hi Don,

Sorry, forgot all about your request, hope you received your membership card ok.

Please find attached the current members for the Black Country Area (please remember this info is subject to the Data Protection Act and must only be used accordingly).

My health took a really unexpected dive after the Stoneleigh Show. I had been coping with the cancer quite well up until this point, a tumor that we didn't know about attacked the central nerve in my  spine and has left me without the use of my legs etc. They did try radiotherapy to reduce the size but to no avail I'm afraid.

I'm now bed & wheelchair bound but hoping to go to Donington this weekend to see the British GTs and Formula 3.

Hope the meetings continue to grow, will try to get there but not promising, needs a WAV and somebody to drive.

All the best,

Roland Garratt

WSCC Membership Secretary

My thoughts are with his family.

I did meet him quite a few times and had a few long talks with him, he really was a GREAT GUY with a very dry sense of humour :D

I genuinely feel sad at his loss and I will personally remember him for a very long time.

My heartfelt sympathies to his family and many friends.

What a great bloke.

Very sad news. Glad I got to speak with him at Curborough.

I too fondly remember the battle of the X flows and the night at Thorsby where we sneaked in to the wedding reception :D .

We will all miss you and are thoughts are with your family.

that e-mail is really upsetting in a nice kind of way. What a fantastic bloke he must have been. I hope his family read this thread to see what a Popluar man he was.
