There are plenty out there with the LT77 so I wouldn't worry too much about that especially if you are going to rebuild it.  There's at least one that I know of running a 280bhp 4.2 with no problems.  I think there are a couple of things in it that could be changed if it's not a D suffix but that's about it.  It is also, without a doubt, much easier to mate an LT77 to your engine than a T5 - you can just use std Rover SD1 parts.

As far as I know the 3.14 diff is only available in 7" form (with push in drive shafts).  Again plenty out there running 7" diffs with no problems but if you get a 3.14 (hens teeth) you will need to get another diff to pinch the stub shafts from.  I will be running with a 7" 3.14 if I ever finish my car !!

7.14 is quite a long diff - what size wheels/tyres will you be running.

My V8 has has far less power than yours, at 205bhp at wheels which my contribute to it.

But I am happy with a LT77 gearbox 3.68diff (225/50/15 rear tyres)

An advantage with the T5 is that you can change to better ratios, whereas I am unaware of being able to do this with the LT77.

I'll be running 205/50/15 with T5 and 3.14:1 diff.

No idea what it will be like really!
