Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 its very nice m8 bit difficult - but if it was mine I would try to get 9-10k maybe more is that what you were thinking or have I hurt your feelings is the rear bodywork yellow or is that just the picture? anyway don't sell unless your getting another westy Quote
James Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 Its just the moring sun on the bodywork, its all Orange! No not getting another Westi possibly moving to the darkside Mmm need more than 10k TBH otherwise I will keep it, ive spent £3000 on carbon alone and thats in the last year:bangshead: These photo's were taken pre carbon which is why you cant see it Quote
nikpro Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Was having this discussion with Mark B the other day - they are very difficult to value. Everybody believes their car is in really good condition and this is true until you spot one that is in better condition! In general you won't add to the value of the car by fitting trick bits such as carbon but only make it more saleable. IMO Westfields go for to little money in general anyway. For example a Speedsport would cost around £19,000 to build these days yet they seem to fetch circa £9,500; which is ridiculously cheap. The secret is getting someone to see your car if it'scondition is exceptional because then it will stand out and show it's worth. The bottom line is; it's worth what someone is willing to pay so IMO it can't be valued via the internet and pics - you know what the standard of build is compared to others so value it in relation to those. Age makes no difference to these cars where as build quality does. Any reason for buying a Caterham? Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 thats only my guess m8 - based on its a good spec and that duratecs seem to be available for 10k upwards (more often 11k upwards) good luck though chap - if you are in no rush to sell start at higher price, then work your way down if required there will defo be a buyer out there somewhere at the price you have in mind, you just gotta find em Quote
James Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 Any reason for buying a Caterham? Always wanted one! and the opertunity has arisen for me to do it. Basicly its an itch I have to scratch if not now then later and I would preffer now. Quote
Bananaman Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Personally i'd take off the £3K's worth of CF and bolt the Fiberglass back on and sell for £8/9K and see if you can sell the CF............. Shame but if you want to max the profit it's the way to go............ If you have got the car sooo well sorted (which i don't dispute) then how is a cateringvan gonna change things??? Sounds to me like a good way to chuck £££ away... Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Agreed the only thing I would guess the draw is, is the name. It does not work for me to be honest. A good Westfield is more than a match for a good Caterham. A good Westfield is far better than an average Caterham. Quote
nikpro Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 If you have got the car sooo well sorted (which i don't dispute) then how is a cateringvan gonna change things???Sounds to me like a good way to chuck £££ away... I completely agree with this; I personally think the Caterham is a better car but a very well sorted Westfield is so close to being as good that it isn't worth the money you are going to spend. A caterham will always feel slightly more chuckable and intimate but the main difference is that there are sooooo many Westfield owners that spend ages building then skip the vital steps of set-up and mapping that lets them down so badly. I think it is the mentality of Westfield owners - they have built their creation and wan't to do everything themselves but somethings are just not possible without specialist equipment or a great deal of time/effort/care. Keep the westfield and scratch the itch later! Quote
SteveD Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 i sold my 4th westy years ago and bought a caterham thinking it was the dogs doodys and the way forward ,it was all singing all dancing caterham aswell trick suspension 260 bhp slicks etc etc it was toss i was slower at every event i entered in it so i sold it minus the engine and bought another westy plonked in my engine and bolted on some new wheels and slicks and was instantly faster than the caterham ,so they aint all there cracked up to be wuv i could not wait to get shut of the ponsy overrated piece of ally tat Quote

SteveD Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Steve I wish you would stop mincing your words sorry wuv ! i will try harder next time Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Its refreshing to get an honest opinion Quote
SteveD Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 oh and another point the forum is not a patch on the westy forum ,you will find 90% of them are so far up there own a**es its untrue they think there above eveybody because they own an oh so greater than god marque !when in reallity its a donkeys years old design thats living on its laurels and the prisoner and nothing else ....... fact ! keep the westy rant over Quote
peterg Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 James, I have to agree with the others, have a look around at what is up for sale, even just on this Boardroom there is a 2005 Durabang for £11750 and a 2006 1.8 Zetec for £9850 (both indy rear ends) so, despite the obvious fantastic condition of your car there is no way (imho) that you'll get more than £10k for yours Quote
