Vinny's Westie Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Bought a BJT A Max last year and it was a disaster to such an extent they gave me a replacement trailer with some extras on it for the inconvenience. The new trailer is not much better, loose bolts, wrong bolts holding the hitch on, generally not impressed. Seeing a PRG trailer before I purchased this how I wish I had bought the PRG, nothing in the price only bought the BJT because it was through the indespension network. PRG for me everytime, avoid BJT. Quote

PRG for me everytime, avoid BJT. have BJ gone the same way as Mercedes Benz then? 2 reasons to ask: - - the BJ I'm selling is top-notch quality - am currently of a belief that BJ was and still is top of the class in terms of quality (i.e. you'd pay them a little extra for the equivalent trailer because it is built inherently better) Would be interested in other's views on that. cast iron Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Put the two side by side, I think the PRG will cearly win My car is a widebody running 205 rear tyres with inches to spare Quote
peterg Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Not sure if BJ quality has suffered of late but in the last 8 years I've had one x BJ (Minno - stolen), one x bespoke ali box trailer and two x PRG (1 fabric covered and current one is a 'Sport' 14ft x 6ft open trailer). Leaving out the bespoke ali box one, they've all towed well and been reliable if looked after, I've had to ring PRG a few times and always got quick replies and been very helpful - they made me some 3 mtr aluminium ramps so I could load the single seater more easily and turned them round and delivered them in a week Given the choice, I would tend to go to PRG rather than BJ as their prices reflect the heritage - bit like having a Westfield instead of a C*terham Quote
stewart pickles Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 i think brian james built their reputation on quality, using bradley gear on their trailers then went cost cutting and started using running gear from eastern european countries.the jockey on my clubman is an absolute joke the outer shape has deformed with the bracket fastener and is now very hard to wind up and down,in 13 years at bradley's i have never seen a jockey come back in that state.when i get chance ill be nipping in to bradleys for a full hydratow front end for my trailer http://www.bradleydoublelock.co.uk/product.php?prod_id=478 Quote
thos Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I bought BJT 2yrs ago based on the name - and resale value due to the name! My jockey wheel is a bit rattly - but thats due to a car hopping off the trailer, and in fairness the jockey wheel helped stop it coming further and hitting my van! Top marks! BUT I'd love a nice enclosed trailer and will hopefully give Woodford or PRG a shot in the near future! Quote
Asterix Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 no DIY conversions Ahem...public announcement. During a recent statement Mr. Asterix may have inadvertantly implied that DIY converted trailers were sub-standard when compared to factory built covered trailers. Of course, this not the case. Those who have DIY'd their own trailers have, without exception, exceeded the best factory standards available, invested heart, blood and tears in an honourable pursuit and not succumbed to the faint-of-heart shopping trip only type mentality that I obviously possess. Oh, how I wish I could DIY my own trailer but I am being forced, by withdrawal of beer shopping services, to go the more ethically flawed factory shopping route. (That's me done, I'm off to dig another hole in another thread) Quote
