Lundy Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I have bought a part finished westfield which already has the screen fitted and the wipers, I have to fit a wassher bottle but also need to fitt a demist system, the vehicle has the ducting to the screen already fitted. My question is can I mount a 12 volt hair dryer under the dash and connect the ducting to the end? I would also want to leave the switch on the hairdryer so that would mean reaching under the dash to turn it on is this acceptable for the SVA? Thanks in advance Quote
bhouse Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Don't forget that it's IVA you have to satisfy now rather than SVA. I've no idea if the regs specifically forbid using hair dryers as demisters but it doesn't seem like the best approach. Although the rule books for the tests are very comprehensive, it seems to me that the tester also takes into account the way the car is put together to form an overall impression of the quality of work. I suspect that anyone finding a demist system powered by a 12V hairdryer that can only be turned on by reaching under the dash would rapidly form a conclusion that the car was likely to be a bit of a lash-up. This could well colour their overall impression of the car. A designed-for-purpose demister will create a much better impression and needn't be expensive. There's one here for example. Brian Quote
Hammy Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Can you not just take the screen off, wont mist up then.. Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Is it a wide or narrow car? I've got a heated wide screen in the garage with a small 1" crack to the passenger side if you wanted to borrow it to get through IVA. I'm in Colchester Essex if that's any help. Mark Quote
Lundy Posted June 25, 2009 Author Posted June 25, 2009 Thanks for your offer Mark but it is a narrow body, Thanks again Chris Quote
