carpetstu Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Sowts I have some packing somewhere. if you want to try some I can see about finding it! Quote
sowts Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 cheers stu but do i just ram it in or do i need to get the old stuff out then ram it in or do i do some thing else Quote
Guest Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 if its full of packing and you stuff it full to the gunnels and tighter you will make your exhaust noisier . you need to have a nice blanket of wadding wrapped around the perforated tube not too tightly thus letting gasses escape into the wadding rather than straight threw and out the end . what size is your silencer? and on what engine ? sowts Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 600mm long 500mm girth 3in pipe in (and on looking inside earlyer 3in pipe through the middle) 3in out on a 1800 zetec with jenvy throttle boddies Quote
Big R Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 It does seem a bit short to meet current noise limits and a 3" pipe is enormous for a 1800 zetec and you only have ~1.5" wadding wrapped around it .... the wadding needs to be packed correctly - just pushing more in could make things worse.... Quote
carpetstu Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Good job I didn't claim to be an expert on the subject then ay? PMSL Quote

If i remeber correctly 250bhp to 280 bhp has a 2.75 inch collector 2.5 inch exit , a 3 inch collector is designed for 300bhp plus up to 250 your on a 2.5 inch collector with a 2 and a quater outlet. Guest Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 how about i restrict the size into the can would this make a difference (i was thinking of reducing after the 4 in to 1 existing part westfield standard fitment) it would , and actually you can buy an insert that goes inline that will reduce noise and reduce inlet . insert into the inlet end JETU937630 JETEX 3" DECIBEL INSERT 300mm LONG £19.57 from burton power www.burtonpower.com Quote
