Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Hey peeps A couple of us are thinking of doing our first track day in the westies and wondered what would be required A few of you recommend Bedford which is very close for myself and Tony I am thinking I perhaps need an oil catch tank (do I need this for a newish duratec engine or are they enclose?) Tony has a Pinto so I guess he will almost certainly need one I need to invest in some cheapy wheels and tyres so I do not knock out me A048's Is there any other requirements for Bedford? Such as minimum roll bar requirements? Do I need to tell my insurance company (Flux aarrghh) - am I covered insurance wise if i have a spill? If I crash it will my breakdown cover (Flux's) come and pick the car up from the track Do I need any clothing such as boiler suit, if so what type Does my helmet need to be approved - my seat belts are out of date but I am assuming this does not matter for track days My car has the standard westfield supplied exhaust which is very quiet, but Tony has a veru loud Pinto - do they measure DB at Bedford? Umm so many questions - and so many experianced guys to answer I thought i would ask you guys rather than ring the circuit cause your all soooooo helpful thanks in advance chaps Quote
skOOby Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Bedford are VERY hot on noise - if you set the meters off they send you home, no second chance! Quote
RichP Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Cleggy I did a track day at Bedford a couple of weeks ago. As said they are very strict on noise, both static and drive by. Other than that they checked nothing on my car. Assuming you'll use the GT circuit it's quite long and despite us having ~80 cars booked for the day it never felt busy or crowded. There's loads of space for run-off etc so chances of damaging your car should be low. I didn't bother with insurance and to be honest I feel much less likely to have a prang on a track day than on the road (could be my lack of experience though!). It was a great day - well managed and good hospitality. There's fuel on site which is a bit expensive (~15p/ltr more than usual perhaps) or there's a statio up the road. I didn't bother - turned up brimmed and filled on site 3 times to save time! There are garages on site which I'm not aware that you can book but are useful if it rains. You will need a catch tank, but on my occasions they didn't check that it was actually fitted or empty. Very positive all round - some might say it's not a great track but I think there's enough challenging mix of corners plus a long straight to take in the sights. I booked through Easytrack who seemed competitive at the time, but you can go direct to Motorsport Vision as well. Let us know when you go - might consider another go myself! Have fun! Rich Quote
housebeautician Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 as cleggy said my pinto is loud (i love it) how can i find out how loud it is or where can i get it measured before i splash out on a trackday as i would be really peed off if i got slung off. also anyone know how much a day out is at bedford. cheers Quote
langy Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Cleggy, I'm looking at doing a track day at Woodbridge on the 9th August click me for info Sean Quote
RichP Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 housebeautician if you give Bedford a call I'm pretty sure they'll do you a noise test in advance of the actual day. I was lucky - got a full day open pit for about £130 through easytrack. However I've not seen it that cheap since. Quote

red hot Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Cleggy, i agree with previous post...good safe venue......they are very strict on noise!!!! however if u phone the circuit and speak to Steve Ingamells he will arrange for a sound test, one of there drivers will take your car round the track with u as a passenger and they will check the drive by noise!!!! the important one.. and its worth it so u can see wot a propper driver can do Nigel Quote
housebeautician Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 thanks richp. dont spose you have a no for bedford. Sean. woodbridge has a noise level of 102db so might be a nice if i can meet it what levels does yours reach as yours is a pinto as well hi nigel ...sounds like a good idea ...will ring and find out Quote
