The price of the very expensive helmets has very little to do with protecting your head better, more to do with being very lightweight whilst still meeting or exceeding the testing requirements. They are made of carbon fibre, and they are many times the price of an average helmet.

There ar lots of helmets which meet the FIA/MSA requirements around the £150 - £225 mark. A bit more if you want colour schemes rather than plain white. There are excellent helmets for a bit less which dont meet the FIA/MSA requirements because they dont have fire resistant linings. They protect your head from impact damage just the same however, and hence they meet the ACU requirements, and you get those from reputable bike shops or bike clothing shops.

Indeed, mine meets the ACU and sharp tests and fits well. i havent found it tiringly heavy on trackdays so it was a good buy.

If I was racing then Id have to buy something certified for car use and fireproof.

The old myth about 50 quid lids just isnt true in many cases.

Hi Buzz

I wrongly thought that its becoming more general that you couldn't use a bike helmet for track days.  I read this on the PistonHeads forum Click here.
