Don't know why I'm bothering to post this video clip as nobody commented  on it when I put it on the topic  'Been playing with new cam and clamp, First attempt at a Video' despite the viewing figures going up dramatically on Youtube.

Please have a quick look, I'm racing with SEMSEC against a field of Caterhams, CSR's and R500's. They are obviously quicker in a straight line than mine but they cost more than double. Mine stands me in about £16000.

I've done about 8 meeting since the beginning of last season so I'm still learning but I think I hold my own pretty well.

As for the comment about wanting to be a biker... I've raced bikes to National level in roadracing and Supermoto and hardly think I bought my Westy for that reason.

Stop slating the cars you all profess to love, we can't all afford Duratecs or R500's and if you can, go buy one, bring it to Lydden and I'll probably kick your backside in my much loved Megabusa.

Rant over!

Cant argue with that either!

One thing I do know is the standard SEIW CEC chassis appears to need additional bracing to cope with 170+lbs of talk :p

In what area.... my cars currently in bits so would be great time to beef it up. It has more like 400lb ft of 'talk' so you have got be pretty scared now!

Thanks :)

I've driven both and they are both crap in comparison to a race car.

Std Caterham may well be better than a std Westfield (if there is a std)

However pound per pound I'd struggle to choose.

Too true, and mines only a 600.  :p

Just wish I got to drive the b****y thing rather than be forever re-building it.  :bangshead:

At Donnington Park this weekend racing; there are hundreds of Caterhams there as well. Met up with an Old friend who races them.

After me singing the praises of the Caterham he has told me he can't stand his new CSR260 and it has put him off racing - he's also blown two engines this year!

Says he's going back to Superlights ASAP.

Everybody is different though!

so what about superlights chassis with 240 reliable HP then :D

Are you planning on racing it?

If so, go for the superlight R300 and enter into the chapionship - all cars are as even as you can get so in that way you will test your skill as a driver - they are certainly quick enough on track.

1min 18s around Donny National in the damp.

I've been following this thread, sort of, with mild amusement. Because what is the point of the question? Isn't it a bit academic, because I should imagine most buyers will either want a cec or a bec.

That said, why compare a bec Westie with a cec 'van?

This is the WSCC site afterall! If there is any point to the question, then surely the debate  about the relative merits should be between the Megabusa and a 240 bhp Westie duratec!

You have all got too much money and I am to b****y  poor to care, which is  "best". I like my cheap, fairly quick, narrow bodied shed.  Mind you, I wouldn't mind a Donkervoort, could be they are the best. Happy Days.

ive just read this thread and thought i was on the darkside for a minute     strange that

think if the o/p had asked a slightly different question like...

megabusa or 240bhp duratec Westfield the replies would have still been exactly the same or mine would be   :D  :D

didn't your busa end up having my suggested setup near enough with a few tweaks ?

;)  ..... iain will never go ahaead and set a car up like that surely .

if only life was this simple. Caterham with 240bhp I can register in france, westy with same engine I can't. Given the choice I would stick with westfield.  ;)

As for comparing BEC and CEC that's the point, I have the megabusa and absolutely love it, now I can get something a bit more powerful and faster around a track, but will it be as much fun, I am not sure.

As for other comments, yes I have some money (and to get this money I am spending 8 months away from home/year), should I be ashame of it? these are comments I would expect on a french forum, hence why I am not posting there but here.   :suspect:

Nickpro: not looking to go racing, just building a nice car for myself for road an track use. The thing is, if I go ahead I want some more performance than in the megabusa or else there is not much point. And you know how boys are with their toys, more is always better  :D , no matter if my driving skills are not up to it  :p
