ludo Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 in the title, which one would be more fun on track. Faster on straight line, definitely the durabang that's a given, around the bend, they would be about the same weight so that would be down to suspension set up so lets call it even, but I am afraid I would miss the 10000rpm rush and the sequential gearbox (can't swing it in the budget). What's your take on it? Quote
Ghost Dog Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 If your after cheap RPM in a car then its got to be a 2.0l Honda VTEC engine. Personally I don't get the whole bike engines in cars other than for pretend bikers. Having riden bikes for most my life I wanted a car with bike like performance so opted for a 9,000rpm Duratec with a Quaife 6 speed squential.... Quote
nikpro Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 No question - out of the box the Caterham will be much faster on a circuit; it's a far better car IMO. Now Caterham prices aren't that much more than a comparable Westfield (Bought New), Caterham residuals are far better and they no longer use the K series engines buying a Westfield new makes no sense whatsoever IMO. All the advantages Westfield once had have long since vanished; buy the best Seven - a Caterham. Quote

Bananaman Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Cateringvan would be faster BUT Megabusa will be MUCH cheaper, you can pick one up for not much more than £10K, £13K for a smart one, i'm betting the Cateringvan will be £10K more Quote
STAINLESS STEVE Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Don't know why I'm bothering to post this video clip as nobody commented on it when I put it on the topic 'Been playing with new cam and clamp, First attempt at a Video' despite the viewing figures going up dramatically on Youtube. Please have a quick look, I'm racing with SEMSEC against a field of Caterhams, CSR's and R500's. They are obviously quicker in a straight line than mine but they cost more than double. Mine stands me in about £16000. I've done about 8 meeting since the beginning of last season so I'm still learning but I think I hold my own pretty well. As for the comment about wanting to be a biker... I've raced bikes to National level in roadracing and Supermoto and hardly think I bought my Westy for that reason. Stop slating the cars you all profess to love, we can't all afford Duratecs or R500's and if you can, go buy one, bring it to Lydden and I'll probably kick your backside in my much loved Megabusa. Rant over! Quote
JeffC Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 steve I dont think anyone is slating westfield, I certainly wouldnt and definatly not busas I reckon after owning and trackin busas for 4 years Ive prob done more track miles in one than anyone , and in all my years of owning a Busa I never got scranned by a Burgervan on track and ive been against csr 260s / r300/400/500s. a well driven Busa is a very quick track tool, but budget aside imho a well driven Caterham duratec will be quicker we can't all afford Duratecs or R500's and if you can, go buy one, bring it to Lydden and I'll probably kick your backside in my much loved Megabusa. you should be able to test that theory once Mr Conibear gets his Caterham up and sorted which is looking like pretty soon Quote
jedi Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 ive just read this thread and thought i was on the darkside for a minute strange that Quote
STAINLESS STEVE Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Cheers Jeff. Especially as Mr Conibear has been instrumental in the setup of my car, we will be out against one another next month. Quote
JeffC Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 ive just read this thread and thought i was on the darkside for a minute strange that think if the o/p had asked a slightly different question like... megabusa or 240bhp duratec Westfield the replies would have still been exactly the same or mine would be Quote
JeffC Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 what about a 240bhp megabusa 1550cc busa been there / done that and have video footage to prove the outcome give me a duraburp anyday of the week Quote
STAINLESS STEVE Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 What about a reliable 240hp Megabusa Mines knocking out 194, if I stroke it I think I can get it up to about 210 reliable hp..... stay away from big bore unless you've got deep pockets! Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 and more to be had from the busa too .... solve the debate by sticking a duratec in a westy, then we are all happy Quote
