speedy jon Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 hi all, the westfield failed today on headlight patern. it was dipping to the left. iv done a search and have read about other peoples problems with these headlights but none that i could find said how they sorted it. would a beam corrector from halfords sort it or would i need to get in contact with M&P directly. any help on this would be great. Matt Seabrook Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 The M&P lamps are motor cycle lamps and as such have a flat beam pattern. Nothing M&P can do about that. Quote
speedy jon Posted May 27, 2009 Author Posted May 27, 2009 it might be right then, i know he said the patern was as if it was for a left hand drive car. Quote
speedy jon Posted May 27, 2009 Author Posted May 27, 2009 it was one of the boys in my work that failed it. i tried giving him sweets but he wasnt having it. Quote
blankczechbook Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 take a look at the lens, both left and right glass should look identical. with the slanted dipping section easily visible. if you have mirror image lenses then yes the tester is correct you have a LHD lens in one.. if not and the glasses are the same then try reseating the bulb. very surprised the tester ( if he works for you ? ) didn't make clearer what was wrong. stephenh Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Like Matt said, they are motor cycle lights. They dont dip left OR right, they dip up and down in a vertical plane, and a horizontal light plane, IYSWIM. I should take it to somewhere more kitcar friendly! Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 It's daft that bikes can get away with this and cars can't. It's like the front number plate exemption on bikes - too inconvenient to fix so forget it. Quote
FW500 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Ridiculous but not unexpected - I've been told the beam correctors work and bought a set to get through the SVA. It passed without them in the end. Quote
stewart pickles Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 it was one of the boys in my work that failed it. i tried giving him sweets but he wasnt having it. if sweets don't work try a baseball bat my mot man doesn't even care if they light up Quote

Crazy Eddie Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 As I understood it they dip down similar to having a LHD car with the little correction stickers on (which is an MOT pass) and so these should also pass MOT. Always did on mine anyway at a couple of testers so just take it elsewhere if he is on a power trip Quote

cidersurfer Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Try taking it to the MOT station that Matt uses, mine passed there last year and it was on fire several times Quote
