Major Stare Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 SWMBO wants a newer car and to downsize from current 5yr old Renault Scenic. Saw a Nissan Note today, Honda Jazz and Skoda Fabia. The Nissan Note won, so what are they like? Anyone have one? Not buying new, maybe 2yr old. Quote
Norman Verona Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Jon, have a look at www.directcars.co.uk and see if they have anything you fancy. The manager has changed so ring them, speak to Julie and tell her Norman Verona has told you to ring and you can have my intro commission. She'll sort it for you. They're just up the road from Eckington. Quote
tex Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 i work on the line at sunderland.. Buy the 1.5 diesel.. Best value is the mid range SE alloys, air con, bluetooth.. I had the tekna diesel for a year.. Was gutted when i had to give it back.. We rent them on a co. Scheme.. Diesel the best option.. Goes like stink.. Pulls well dont expect sports car handling tho.. Cars like that are tall.. Can catch the wind Quote
Major Stare Posted May 24, 2009 Author Posted May 24, 2009 Looking at the SE & SVE specs. Are the 1.4 & 1.6 petrols no good? SWMBO doesnt do enough milage to warrent a diesel. Quote
RichP Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I've had 3 1.6 petrol SVE's - the economy is not bad so unless you do high mileage the diesel is probably not worth it (although as tex says they're pretty good). I think they're ok - performance is reasonable and the accommodation pretty good - sliding rear seat to make the boot larger is useful. The can roll around a bit but they're not a sports car so it's not really an issue. I think they're better than the Jaz, can't comment on the Skoda. Quote
chappers Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I like the look of the note and could easily be tempted. At the moment we have a Jazz Se Sport. A bit underpowered but it's quick enough and the firm suspension means is doesn't roll around. With the flip up rear seats and large interior space it's very versatile. Getting about 44 mpg at the moment, but that can go up to about 52 when cruising. I'd have another one, but I'd have a Note as well. Don't like the look of the Fabia, even if it was a VRS. Kev. Quote
brianm Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 The Nissan uses the 1460cc Renault turbo diesel in 1.5 form, cracking engine, drags my Megane estate around and gives up to 65mpg. Wife had a 52plte clio with the same engine, again cracking engine, a bit coarse in the clio but no problems. When she wanted a change of car late last year we looked at the Note as it shared the engine so we expected similar economy, but our 2 "kids", both in thier 20's, said they'd never talk to us again if we parked such a box outside thier homes. I must admit we didn't like the car from the outside, just too boxy, so went for something else, but as I recall the internals were nice and the part leather on the SVE and other spec was very attractive Quote
tex Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 i just think the car is a far better spec than the petrol - feels nicer to drive - iv had about 5 notes now all variants iv compared against - the diesel is defo the engine to go for for sheer performance - not brilliant on economy - BUT - if you keep revs below 2000 rpm it will give over 80mpg - try it. the petrols i have had are all very tight engines till they get 'loosened up' ie a damn good thrashing up n down a motorways for a while.. then they are ok but still not the pulling power for overtaking as the diesel - it will overtake with ease. the drivers seat with the SE and SVE or accenta and tekna comes with an arm rest and much comfier seats - but the passenger seat gets a lifty up base storage - makes the passenger seat harder.. watch for that the boot also has split level storage - a pair of boards seperating the levels - a great idea when shopping - you can really fill the boot up without crushing soft carrier bags or stuff rolling around the tekna isnt worth the money - the only real difference is the ESP electric mirrors if i remember right - and privacy glass.. just adds weight diesel SE or accenta - i had an electric blue one last time round - was sad to see it go oh yea watch your cornering if a bit 'enthusiastic' they can eat front tyres - i think the compound is quite soft to accomodate the heavy diesel over the front wheels Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Rob Tyas had one as a company hack he loved it altho' he did look very gay in it! Buzz Quote
Major Stare Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 Cheers all. Need to decide on older car with dCi engine, or newer car with petrol. Plus SWMBO will no doubt clinch a deal because "thats a nice colour" Quote
