Rory's Dad Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 I have had some problems in starting and found that the NGK BCP8ES plugs were a bit sooty although cleanish around the tips of the electrodes. I gave them a gentle wizz with a small brass wire brush in the dremmel at slow speed and they came up a treat I bought some NGK BCP7ES on advice from Leon B as most of my mileage is commuting but have no ideas on what the gaps should be. Did a search and could find nothing - they are going in a 185bhp VX redtop. Your advice awaited with interest. Thanks - Rory's Dad Quote
a4gom Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 what leads are you running? The NGK partfinder site suggests BCPR7E or BCPR7ES you mention BCP7ES i'm pretty sure the R stands for resistor so you may not need this if your leads do the job. I may be talking crap as i am getting old and do get mixed up but the I think the lower number will allow it to run hotter so its a good start. I'm pretty sure the plugs will be set pretty close at the factory? 185bhp is that a standard engine on throttle bodies? if so what ever the haynes manual says for the gap is it 0.8mm, if its tuned higher compression etc then you may need to change the gap smaller I think. perksy Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Might of been a Typo but you want the 'R' Type which stands for 'Resistor' with a Fuel injected XE The 8's might of been a bit Cold for a Fairly standard XE and that's why they sooted up NGK BCPR7ES is Gapped to 0.7mm (although some folks gap them to 0.8mm) There's some info on NGK's site HERE Using either the 7's or the 8's in an XE has been discussed previously and might be worth a search as there was a few different views Quote
