Does anyone know of a good cheap scaffold firm in the northwest that can supply and fit roof canopy's?

We are putting bedrooms in our loft space, This involves at least half of the roof being removed. I don't fancy risking the weather

Try someone like SGB Scaffolding a google should reveal more  :)

Do be careful to ensure that a full design service is undertaken with consideration for existing structure, working space and wind loading conditions + all necessary liability insurances  ;)  ;) its quite a specialist area  ;)  :)

As above  :)

I'm not sure what you'd consider as cheep but you'd be looking at several £1000's to do it properly.  talk to the builder to discuss how long the roof wont be weathertight for, from experience the majority of loft conversions I've looked at haven't been without tiles or felt for any longer than a week, and the cost of fixing a couple of water damaged ceilings could well be cheeper than a roof canopy.

Most loft conversions are done without a tin lid as the cost is many k and as said above a small amount of damage internally can be sorted for less. Well fixed tarpaulins are the usual.

Good luck.

as the other replies we usually pay anything from £4000 upwards for a lid and a roof can be made watertight unless the weather gets extreem. One advantage with a lid is that the job can be carried out a lot quicker as no time is lost due to the weather although comming into summer the weather should be OK ??? try a few of the larger firms for prices with the downturn in work you may get a really good deal but as mark says make sure that all necessary insurances are in place, also may be worth putting an alarm on the scaffolding as the property will be insecure whilst work is being carried out, costs about £80 per week and check your household insurance they may not pay out if anything happens, you can usually pay a one off premium to cover any eventuality.

I am doing all the work myself i expect the roof to be off for no longer than 1 week

The best canopy price so far is £3200 which is to much

If i have to i will use tarps to cover it but i would rather have it weather tight so i can work in the rain which is likely going off last summer

We bought a 1960's bungalow 11 months ago which needed total renovation. We put plans in to the council for the loft extension hoping to have it passed with in 6 to 8 weeks which the council said was the norm.

I cracked on with the downstairs knocking down walls pulling up floors etc. The plans where knocked back :( more plans and meetings and 10 months waiting and the plans where passed, Great but by this time all the downstairs was finished so you can see why i don't really want anything to get wet especially the 18mm oak floor in the living-room and dining-room

Hows about get some 2nds 2x2 or even 2x1  joists , make a frame/ frames  and cover with PVC sheet , keep the weather out and can tie it down from the inside so's it can easily be removed for working  :t-up:

a decision is the norm in that time period however it may not always be the decision to pass - planning rejection also takes this long - sorry but any works undertaken without approval is at risk  :(  ;)

The price you have got for the lid is about right but what rental does it include. Without knowing exactly what you have to do it is difficult to advise but should be possible to do roof in stages unless the whole structure is coming off.

By the way at the moment people are saying that this summer will be a belter for building and of course blatting :D

we where expecting it to pass as every other bungalow in the area has had some sort of extension work done. 1 of the bungalows is now a full 2 story house.

We had to kick off big time with them but in the end we go what we wanted

All alterations now have permission

Thanks for the contact details Paul i will give them a bell Monday
