OK, there is a data plate rivetted on the bulkhead from Westfield and the info has three weights.

Axle 1 425Kgs

Axle 2 500Kgs

And then a figure below of 900Kgs.

So my question is: How much does my car weigh? It can't be 900Kgs surely?  :(

Ive seen threads on here of people having standard cars, with spare wheels and carpets etc, getting 575-600Kgs

It's not the weight of the car is the load on the axle.

mine came in at 640kgs at NMS BUT had 3/4 tank fuel, spare wheel on and all sorts in the boot {ie jack / hood etc}.

I think stripped down a dry weight for mine would be a tad under 600kg.

Mine was SVAd at 900kg as well, despite weighing in at about 535kg. It must be some wrinkle in the testing rules. Any techie types around to explain? Just the sort of thing that Blatman would have a theory on ;)

The 900kg is the gross vehicle wieght - i.e. the chassis/construction is designed UPTO a total weight of 900kg.  The axle weights dictate how much each axle can theoretically support - i.e. upto 425 for the front axle and 500kg for the rear axle.

The car in reality will be much less that the GVW and the loading on each axle less than the design weights - only way to tell how much it actually weighs is to get it on a weighbridge.

As said above its not your mean vehicle weight. I know My SEiGHT is a pretty heavy 711 kg but I don't mind as it got 287bhp and 321ft/lbs of torque to drag me and the the chubby westy round!

It depends on the car spec, but my car with no carpets, light seats, no screen / heater, etc, came in at 560kgs (with about a 5 ltrs of fuel)....I have a cvh engine, so a tad lighter than a zetec, and with everyting should be around the 610kg mark.......So expect yours to be somewhere in between these numbers.

Mine weighs in at 525kg like Jenko, no carpets, no inner panels, no screen, no driver!

As has been said, its the gross safe laden weight. The newer cars seem to be a bit heavier, mine without driver and assuming only 1/4 tank of fuel is about 580 kg kerbside weight, and that's no carpets and an aeroscreen. It cant be the weight of the engine, 'cos thats VERY light. ;)  ;)  ;)  :D  :D

Ahhh it all becomes clear Thanks everyone for setting me straight! :)

I weighed mine the other day (was setting corner weights)

Admittedly I had a full tank of fuel as it was just post SVA but it came in at 528kgs  :p .

Thats with full cage too.

Dont ask what it is with me in it

As has been said above the figures on the plate are gross laden weight.

At the charity weigh in we did a few months back, there was a notable difference my car SEiW and Anthonys SE (both stripped) - the SE being much lighter.....

Johnson.....What engine do you have?....528 with full cage is very impressive....

Go along to your public weighbridge and get it weighed

Mine (1600 se) weighed in at 585kg fully fueled for SVA; full screen, heater, standard seats, interior panels, carpets and spare wheel which I didn't think was bad.  They use that weight and convert it to "in service weight"(?) for all the brake bias calculations by adding 160kg (apprently arbitrated as 2x75kg occupants each with 5kg of luggage).  This needs to come out as less than the manufacturer's GVW to satisfy SVA I think.  Corrections anyone?

Mine is a BEC,Megabusa.

Deleted the reverse option when I specced it.Been very careful with what I fitted.Where safe I tried to use alloy bolts for bits and bobs.

Stripped out the dash loom and got rid of all the unwanted crap too.

This is also dry sumped I think it took 8.5 litres of oil  :suspect:  from memory (-12 pipes as its the SBD dry sump)

The only thing I could not change was the differential as I was offered a brand new 3.36 and it was 7.5 inch rather than a 7 inch  :( .

The figures were taken using calibrated scales in case anyone was wondering.
