Simeon Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 I have just read on the internet that for a car to pass it's SVA test the engine engine must have documentary evidence of it's source. Is that correct? and if so could anyone explain further. Thanks Quote
MCB Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 To be tested at the correct emissions levels for the engine you do indeed need evidence of age of the engine I wrote to Ford technical for my pinto and they sent me a letter headed statement stating the year of manufactor Hope this helps Quote
Simeon Posted May 3, 2009 Author Posted May 3, 2009 What happens if you buy a removed engine off ebay for example and then you recondition it. We are talking about a 3.5 sdi engine so who would you write to as rover are no more? Quote
MCB Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 The Heritage Motor Centre maybe able to help, http://archive.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/heritag....aq.html Quote
Simeon Posted May 3, 2009 Author Posted May 3, 2009 Sorry for sounding dumb The serial number determines what kind of engine it is and it's year, not the actual car it originated from right? So all the SVA tester wants to know is the serial number? If so then thats not a problem. Quote
MCB Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 When I had my SVA in Jan 09 the tester knew my Pinto engine was from a Sierra, however he still asked for proof of age or he was going to carrying out a CAT emmision test, the letter from Ford confirmed that it should only be tested at a 1985 regs / level Quote
highwayman Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 There's a guy I wrote to at landrover and for £15 he sent me a headed letter stating the age of my engine as he knows all the Rover engine serial no's and dates of manuafacture. I'll try and dig his contact details out for you. The year can be sourced from this document http://www.v8forum.co.uk/engineno2.htm and here's the guy I wrote to:- Eric Pagan Traceability Systems Land Rover Lode Lane Solihull B92 8NW 0121 700 4524 Quote
