Mike H Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I'm looking at buying a compound mitre saw for my skirtings and various other bits n bobs. Found this: http://www.axminster.co.uk/product....334.htm Anyone got one of their saws? Any good? etc etc thanks Mike Quote
wipper Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I bought this one from B & Q and have been impressed: Clicky Quote
RichP Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Yep - if it's the one I think it is, I used one for cutting coving and found that the mitre angle graduations were very inaccurate and had to be set using a protractor to get anything like an accurate cut. It was then ok, so depends what you need I guess. Quote
Mike H Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Oh right, thanks for that. Accuracy would be good! But as long as any errors are reproduced in reverse ok I guess I should still be able to still get neat corners - non of which are anywhere near right angles btw. The alternative I'm thinking of at the moment is a DeWalt like this: ptZUK_Home_Garden_PowerTools_SM?hash=item250399691644" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DEWALT-....9691644 Which is a non slider which can still manage my 6" skirting. I've seen one of these in the flesh (but not used) and it felt pretty good quality. I would lose out on flexibility in the future though. So, not wanting to spend the earth, should it be cheap slider or cheap but basic DeWalt? Mike Quote
RichP Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 If you can think of a few uses for it in the future ie there's a long term plan, then I'd get the best quality you can afford. I felt that the Axminister one was trying to do too much for the money and I'd have preferred it to have done a better job of less, IYSWIM. Quote
wacomuk Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Have a look at the secondhand saws on ebay. not much goes wrong with mitre saws, i have had the same one for nearly 10 years now. mine is 110V electra beckham Try and get one with a angled motor, this type are better for skirting Quote
alex205 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Hi I can not comment on the exact product but I have bought a lot of other products from Axminster and they have always been good quality for the price paid, my electric planner is very good but not as good as my dads Elu but then he bought his for 5 times the price. Saying that he has bought a semi professional lathe from them and is very happy with the quality. I dont know where you are but there are 2 sites in the South East and one in Axminster... in Devon!!! if you are close worth a look as they have virtually every product on display Quote
