Number plates on nose cone

Mine appears to be mounted the same as the one in Stuart's avatar, so can only assume it uses Westfield's own fixings.  I'm on my second front plate, so at least it seems to stay on better than the rear one (I'm on my 4th of those since April  ).

It would seem that whilst the five fingered widow knows there is a law, she doesn't know what it is.

  I’m fully aware of the law regarding positioning of number plates and letter spacing, thank you very much.

she doesn't know what it is

 bl**** cheek. I'm a man born and bred.

Maybe I just mis-interpreted your first posting. If so, sorry. However, if it confused me, it has no doubt confused others. I just sought to give a clear(er) explaination...........

Rules for the display of number plates

Display could be interpreted to mean the plate itself being altered ("display" being used in the visual context), or where you fix it on the car ("display" being used in the positional context). Either way, the MOT fail/thousand pound fine/removal of the number only applies for the "look" of the plate, not where you have it mounted. The question was regarding the mounting of the plate, and the legality thereof, hence my confusion due to you stating the incorrect punishment for the offence in question...........

Widow is the female version of Widower (hence my assumption), or am I missing something................English can be a tricky language...........

  Mr Blatman, that green car of yours looks suspiciously like it has a number plate on a horizontal surface. Legal? I think not.

 I couldn’t call myself the Five Fingered Widower because that would have been plain stupid

The nose cone if far from horizontal. It's not vertical either, but it's as close as you'll get on this type of car, which is my point. It's passed 3 MOT's like it, and my other Westfield has passed 5, so I reckon I could argue in court that a precedent has been set, by government approved testers trained and assessed in the relevant rules and regulations............

I've just been searching the web for a copy of the MOT rules. Couldn't find any, as it seems "our Tony" has had a hand in what the DOT (or whatever it calls itself now) can and can't show on it's web site. Freedom of information, I think not. But I digress........

I found this, and this. The second one appears to be an "official" MOT rules web site. Both sites, however, make no mention of the position of the plate, although I still want to find the full MOT manual.

So it may have changed since last looked at the rules (I can't find it to check), or the two sites are short of some crucial information. I'm off to see if I can find the construction and use regs now...............wish me luck................

Found 'em................right here

No mention of position of number plates, so the search for wether I'm right or wrong continues.................

Last one for tonight............

I found the Vehicle Inspectorate web site. It also makes no mention of the position of the front (or rear, for that matter  ???  ) number plates either, and this is an official government site.

Mind you, it misses out quite a lot of other detail too, so I'm still not happy that I'm 100% right.

P'raps I'll find something tomorrow...............night night
