Chris.B Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 How have those of you who don't have a stick-on number plate fasten it to the nose cone? Custom brackets, plastic rivet through lower nose cone lip? etc etc Cheers Chris Build site Quote
Phssthpok Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 I’ve not had a front number plate for decade; although I do wire one on the grill for MOT purposes only. Cop’s don’t seem to care and speed traps that take pictures of the front of the car are useless - which has saved me many a penalty point over the years. Quote
Bryan C Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 When I shattered my front numberplate for the 'Nth' time, I took it off and carefully peeled the perspex face off ( it was in 3-4 pieces ! ) and then had the reflective paper backing laminated in clear pvc before screwing it back. Now it simply bends backwards when it comes in contact with any obstruction and is probably more aerodynamic at speed. Problem solved. Quote
Bob Green Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 I have a aluminium plate behind the regestration plate as every time I went into the garage I caught the bl**** thing and cracked it Quote

The five fingered widow Posted September 13, 2002 Posted September 13, 2002 Hello, hello, hello. Rules for the display of number plates are set out in law and breaking that law could mean: A fine of up to £1,000 The registration mark may be WITHDRAWN The vehicle may FAIL the MOT test Now where’s my riot baton… Quote
Stuart Posted September 13, 2002 Posted September 13, 2002 Believe it or not, Westfield Sportscars can supply you with some custom front numberplate brackets Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted September 14, 2002 Posted September 14, 2002 Chris, I had the same problem with my'n and so made up a plastic one, see enclosed pics. This is vac formed in the same way we make the Carbon Effect stone guards, rear lights and front wings. But at the moment only using a temporary tool. If there is enough interest then I will make a batch. Front Numberplate Plastic fixing -side view Using this gives an extra 55mm clearance. Front Number Plate showing lifted up by 55mm Nick Quote

Blatman Posted September 15, 2002 Posted September 15, 2002 It would seem that whilst the five fingered widow knows there is a law, she doesn't know what it is. So............. Front number plates must be mounted on the "first suitable vertical surface" of the front of the car. A Westfield doesn't have a suitable vertical surface (the lower "lip" of the nose cone is unsuitable as it is too small, and too close to the ground.........), and many MOT testers have agreed with me......... The rules for withdrawal of an index number are only applied if you alter it's appearance to look different to what it should, and do NOT apply to the "where you fix the plate" question. Get nicked 3 times with an altered plate, and the police/magistrates/DVLA have the option to withdraw it. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 15, 2002 Posted September 15, 2002 And I bet The 5FW looks a lot younger than many folks around here Mind that ain't too difficult is it Quote
