???

Just took my westy for an mot and to have some work done to a kitcar factory. Local to me and shall remain nameless for the time being. My contact there is the owner of said factory.Had a call from him stating that the car would fail its mot on emissions. So he didn,t test it.Apparently according to him vosa are clamping down checking engine numbers and date checking them to ensure correct emissions. My engine is 2 monthss past the cut off date so has to have the emissions test and not visible smoke only. Car has an age related plate. The car is 10 years old now and has never needed an emissions test in the past. ???  :0

This is where it gets interesting,he went on to say that they are changing the rules for engine swapping so if a newer engine is fitted it requires the emissions test for the newer engine even if a q plate was his understanding. :0  :0

Anyone shed any more light on this please. ???

Trying the garage who mot,d it last time now on friday armed with old mot cert so i can tax the damn thing and start using it.Will be b******d if have to fit a cat now,i,ve just brought a new exhaust.

Didn't realize it affected cars that old but know I got caught out on this with mine. Just spent another £350 on a Cat for mine so I don't get caught out again. My is on a year plate 04 and the rules are clear for mine. Emissions test not visible only.

Hadn't heard about the new engine rule. Sounds a bit arsy to me.

I just MOTed mine and no issue.... Q plate with a 1992 2.0ltr silver top BUT he did run the idle emissions test and a test at2000rpm.... passed both... no cat

I asked my MoT bloke yesterday what 'visible smoke' meant. He said with the engine run at 2500rpm the smoke must not be such that it interferes with the vision of following drivers. I reckon mine will pass that - just! :D
