Leon B Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I take it the narrow body chassis is considerably lighter than the new wide version then? Quote
Bean Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Food poisoning, I wouldn't recommend it but I managed to lose two stone in three weeks Quote
lippydave Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 If aluminium is known as Ali surely Titanium must be Titty. No? Soooo... As my V8 sports a silencer each side, I could mount a nice pair of titties??? I'll get me (lightweight kevlar) coat..... (Kevies?) Quote
kermit The Frog Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 QUOTE I take it the narrow body chassis is considerably lighter than the new wide version then? I think you’ll find a Black Narrow body is the fastest Westfield you can get! (regardless of engine or driver) Quote
custardtart Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Being a bit of a geek I used to have a spreadsheet with all the possible upgrades, the cost and the weight saving. It was then easy enough to work out what the most cost effective weight saving mods would be and which ones I could afford The obvious areas to look at are gearbox, wheels, tyres, hubs, shocks, calipers, discs, battery, seats. Having got my car as light as I can, this year I'm on a diet Quote
barney Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 diet...diet goodness me man ...carbon fibre is still cheaper than gym membership.. and it is possible to get narrow cars quite light, though mines put a few kgs back on with winter engine upgrade.. so a bit more weight, but a bit more power.. Quote
Hammy Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 so a bit more weight,....... Has this cured the problem of the rear o/s wheel being off the ground when you get out ? (Sorry mate tried for a good 5 mins to resist it) Quote
Norman Verona Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 QUOTE carbon fibre is still cheaper than gym membership Oh no it's not! Quote

markcoopers Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 My narrow with VX, Westfield race seats and very little interior, standard battery, small alternator, remade wiring loom, lightweight hubs and custom rollbar came in at 529KG. Have since acquired an odyssey 680 battery, CF dash and boot lid cover, GRP seats without frames and an RAC rollbar., may be a little lighter now. Bean old chap, How did you get that down to 529Kgs? I have plastic seats, no runners, odessy battery only a 4 speed box, narrow and live axle, polo rad, ali rack mounts, 4 pot ali calipers std but groved disks, ali dash with std clocks. 13" revolution wheels and 888's, ali bellhousing and absolutly no trim. Ok it has a diffuser and a set of neons (long story), but save for ali shocks and ali uprights (Westfield pressed uprights) i am stumped on how to get this to 530Kgs, and a 1800 zetec has to be lighter than a VX? Oh and the petrol tank is tiny, but on carbs. Ideas on a post card please, as i could do with the help. Cheers. Quote

The full spec at weigh in was: Narrow body live axle 13" Ford RS wheels with A021r tyres Original suspension and brakes, mintex pads Standard uprights with Compbrake lightweight hubs ESP boot lid cover and dash complete with 'No Fat Chicks' sticker Speedo, rev counter, water temp and oil pressure gauges Westfield race seats on frames VX on 45's with Westfield baffled sump, Polo Rad Standard Type 9 with Ali bellhousing, lightened flywheel Tiny Lucas alternator Front Ali pulley courtesy of Pete G Standard heavy battery M&P Headlights Stick on number plates No interior trim Remade loom during engine swap, all non essential wiring removed. Think that's about it The weigh in and suspension setup was actually a Caterham day last September with the guys from Interpro in attendance, a few of the Westie boys were invited along to poke fun at Excellent BBQ too Quote
