Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted April 4, 2009 Author Posted April 4, 2009 tell ya what would be a good idea - a weight ccomparison chart For example Carpet set weighs - ??kg Standard sierra calipers weigh ???kg Ultralite calipers weigh ???kg Standard westfield battery weighs ???kg Lightweight battery weighs ???Kg You get the drift? would be a really good resource for all newbies and tbh you more experianced guys too With a complete set of comparisons you could set yourself a target weight loss then easily work out where and how you are going to achieve it - plus avoid buying inferior products, although lighter does not always mean better Is there anybody with enough knowleadge or tbh is there anyone sad enough to share their info and compile a list - we can all chip in I also noticed on the westfield website there is a column for weight of the item, but none of them are flled in I would guess they would experiance improved sales for upgrades if weights were highlighted Quote
PeP Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Closest thing I know of. westfield-world.com Weight Reduction Calculator Quote
kermit The Frog Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Cleggy, I was thinking of doing something similar for wheel offsets. It seems every week someone’s asking and often a search can result in more confusion. It would be good to compile some offset data and give a definitive answer in the FAQ With regards to weight comparison, I’m happy to throw the various bits on the scales as I rebuild, have just received my Wilwood calipers and grooved & drilled discs, so am interested to see what I’ve saved. However also got a new ali Burton Camcover at cost of £140.00 stuck it on the scales, and its heavier than my existing. Might be worth starting a new thread? Or at least once all the data’s compiled sticking up a chart of some sort of chart? Quote
lippydave Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Don't remove the number plate. It massively helps reduce front end lift. I have a mate at MIRA who did a lot of work for a "similar" manufacturer. Racing Locosts all have front numberplates for that reason - and we don't go as fast as a Duratec! Yes the number plate does help reduce frontal lift..... But a sticky one reduces drag and if you combine that with Mickmade's carbon front splitter (weighs 7/10ths of feck all), you get the frontal lift reduction benefits back and additional reduction in drag occasioned by the side flutes of the splitter and sticky plate... BTW ditching the screen means you can dump heater/ heater recirc hoses, washer bottle, and wiper motor. Reckon the switch from w/screen to aero is the cheapest bang for bucks interms of combined weight and drag reduction. Ditch the footwell carpets and fit some thin alloy chequer plate fastened thro floor, gives grip, easily cleaned and lighter than carpet, replace underseat carpet with v.thin rubber mat helps NVH levels whilst still being practical and light. Chuck the boot box and just fit a shroud over the boot box area. Corrrecr re-orientation of cycle wings on brackets helps reduce drag and frontal lift too.... All of the above are relatively cheap... Norman Verona Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Lippy, carbon floor, only way. Cleggy. Sorry, didn't want to upset you. I was answering your response to ditching the carpets which was "how much do they weigh". I forgot that the wiper motor and the bracket it bolts to, washer stuff and the wiring and switches for same are gone. Also the lightweight starter and alternator. And the titty silencer...... Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted April 5, 2009 Author Posted April 5, 2009 lol np nevona ... I like the idea of a TITTY silencer ...what the devil is one of those Kermit - yup agreed a resource would be cool - off you go then I will post up a new thread soon and get it started , then wehn we have everyones input we can stick it all together Quote
plonky Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 get a dremel and cut off all the threads that over hang but leave a couple of threads on then attack the excess body work that cant be seen and once you start you will start seeing other things iv Nealy got another westy by doing this Quote
Norman Verona Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 If aluminium is known as Ali surely Titanium must be Titty. No? Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 If aluminium is known as Ali surely Titanium must be Titty. No? Nah, when you've paid for titanium goodies you want to use every letter you can, just to get your monies worth. Quote
James Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 575kg with all that gear on? Are you sure those scales were accurate? Seems a tab on the light side to me Your not wrong! mine was weighed at Pro Comp at 574.9Kg SEW live axel no spare half tank of fuel etc heap's has been done to reduce weight from 610kg to this, but the car still has comfort, carpets, heater, screen etc, I would say that for an independant this is very very light. markcoopers Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 My narrow with zetec, plastic seats no trim, tiny battery, ali rad and rack mounts, 4 pots and 13" wheels (888's though), cage and a fullish tank camne in at 545.5Kgs. Ali shocks and more holes for me, and of course a diet. Quote
Bean Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 My narrow with VX, Westfield race seats and very little interior, standard battery, small alternator, remade wiring loom, lightweight hubs and custom rollbar came in at 529KG. Have since acquired an odyssey 680 battery, CF dash and boot lid cover, GRP seats without frames and an RAC rollbar., may be a little lighter now. Quote
stu999 Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I've spent over £40k on this car and when I floor it coming out of roundabouts I just know it was all worth it. *Cough* *splutter* How much? Why thats a serious investment to freeze yer nuts off with no creature comfort at all? You could easily buy a serious car that`ll whup the *rse off 7evens/Loti etc for that money (in comfort too) Err, like what??? Bearing in mind the 'seven' experience has recently been verified on the Top Gear test track... Quote
