Matt Seabrook Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Agreed with Norm its worth the effort. My sprint car as a Vx lump fitted and I have managed to get that down to 497kg with 1/2 a tank of fuel or enough to sprint with. I have not finished yet with the weight saving. Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 Cleggy, sorry mate but you haven't got it yet. Saving is about every gram. You don't ask what the carpets weigh, they weigh something so get rid.The screen is not only about weight, it reduces the frontal area by about 1/3rd. All of the above suggesteions will reduce weight. However, haveing got mine from 585 bto 507 I can tell you that it gets very expensive per kg for the last 10 or 20 kgs. I've even spent the day cutting off excess bolt lengths, how sad is that? Oh, and don't forget that I also drilled holes in everything I could. Now, where is that diet sheet...... Au contraire mon ami you are missing my point and need to read my first post again To sum up my guidelines for my view on lightening as per my first post - I want to do the biggest/cheapest upgrades first and secondly I dont wanna P**s about So messing about under the car cutting bits off bolts really is not worth my time for a road car nor probably anyboy elses tbh - although I gaurentee there are some loonies on here that have done it - there are far bigger difference to be made on my car initially to make a big difference you have to ask yourself what you are prepared to sacrafice for a road car Quote
peterg Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Cleggy, don't take Norman too seriously, if you met him you'd realise that shaving bolts down was a bit of a waste of time, if he had a (beard) shave he'd lose as much as cutting the bolts down did Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 lol I am not ... just thought I would try the lingo Quote
scott beeland Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Change the car for a stage 2 VX220 turbo...Over 900kg but it's Foooookin quick ...But then it does have only just shy of 300lb/ft available from very low down Quote
RedditchJay Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 my westy was 644kg with 18ltrs of fuel........ Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 what engine you got in yours? Quote
kermit The Frog Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Cleggy, Have you considered removing the internal panels? I started to remove mine earlier as I’m looking to shed a bit of weight as well. The interior need a bit of an overhaul and it the cheapest and lightest option! Not sure about any safety issues or anything else I should be worried about ? Did a search but didn’t see anything. Your wheels look trick on a yellow car by the way. Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 Thanks Kermy - loving them too Not sure about the interior just yet - will probably be left till last I think Quote
hilux Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 QUOTE I've spent over £40k on this car and when I floor it coming out of roundabouts I just know it was all worth it. *Cough* *splutter* How much? Why thats a serious investment to freeze yer nuts off with no creature comfort at all? You could easily buy a serious car that`ll whup the *rse off 7evens/Loti etc for that money (in comfort too) Quote

Bananaman Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Seats (don't worry about the comfort; i did 1000 mile trip in mine no problem). Battery - Oddesy 680 or similar Heater - Who needs this Carpets - They only get wet. Screen - Try it! RAC bar - You'd be mad not to!!!!!! There the big easy bit's, it then starts becoming an ever increasingly more and more expensive for diminishing returns. The Titanium silencer might be an idea though (and you get to loose the CAT which can only be restrictive ) I'd say other things that you should do, is get your car properly set up, get a gearbox with decent set of ratios, fit LSD (if not already fitted?) Evo,s 7SE Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 my car pre lit with a crossflow weighed 532 kg on playskools scales but that is with screen but quite a bit of carbon (boot lid tunnel top dash )but fook off big ford diesel battery and some fuel 1/3rd of a tank .no spare wheel but caterham wheels very light and r888s Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted April 4, 2009 Author Posted April 4, 2009 anyone know where i can get my car weighed local to Peterborough - By the way RAC roll bar is half way - well I say half way, I guess I have done the easy bit that is bolting it on for fit - now comes the hard part, fitting some sort of shelf of the boot box back in Quote
