Anyone know where I can get a stainless steel silencer box polished professionally? Preferably near to where I live, so Stoke-on-Trent, or Derby or Stafford or Burton-on-Trent?

'tis a bit Bernie, although thanks all the same. In fact since my orig. post I have been given the name of a small specialist firm in Burton on Trent. If I use them, and they do a good job, I will post details on here, for the benefit of others who might be interested.

Interested to hear about/see your results.

My Techraft can needs a good cleaning and BuT isnt too far from me.

Resurecting this thread - anyone have any opinion on how hard / easy it is to polish a silencer yourself? Assume starting from stainless material in an "as rolled" state. What's needed to make a resonable job of it? If it costs ~£75 + VAT to get someone else to do it, I can buy a polishing machine (that'll be useful for polishing the car anyway) and some kind of polising gunk for less than that and then it's just my time. Is it viable?

Cheers

Yep. You can mirror polish stainless with a mop for the end of your electric drill and polishing paste. Though it does take a while.

I have the name of the firm recommended to me at home. I can post it tonight if you want, but in fairness I thought I should wait until I've seen the results on my own car first. If they are as good as I have been told then I can recommend them myself. It will be 2 or 3 weeks yet however, because my car is in Northampton 'til then.

As regards cost, I know that Matt Simpson gets the silencer alone polished from bright rolled stainless steel (technically a B2 finish I believe) to a mirror finish for £75. It will be interesting to see whether that can be matched or beaten by the man in Burton!
