They won't do that.

Unless they have armed backup.

I hope he gets it back, but I suspect that this is in bits now. The trailer will be sold and the Caterham sold off in bits, and here is the rub,

How many times have we bought things off Ebay etc that were cheap? Do we ever ask why?

For my self I always collect or have collected parts I buy and that usually gives some idea. If they are happy to let you collect from their home then usually it is kosher, meeting in car parks and just mobile phones cash only always ring bells in my mind as do those who have no idea what they are selling.

Next time you are offered something too good to be true think of this poor guy.

Might be nothing, but I saw a white Caterham on a trailer, being towed behind a silver off-roader this morning (think it may have been a last-generation Freelander though) on tha A34 Northbound near Oxford at 07:30.

Any other news on this?

Sorry to hear about your loss. I hope it turns up.

Surely someone in the plod can identify at least the make and model of the scunnbags car.

One they have this they can perform a VODS (Vehicle Online Descriptive Search) against the dvla database.

They can use descriptive elements to narrow search results This can be done directly by the force in question and they do not have to wait for DVLA to return the results. This would at least give them a starting point.

Jonny, I suspect they could have this crime sorted in a day or so - if they wanted to. However, they feel it's not worth persuing seriously as the car and trailor are insured so no ones lost out.

When the owner first rang in to report it he was given a crime number and they wanted to leave it at that!

I don't blame the Police. It's our society that don't want to deter crime by punishment. Can't be paying for prison places for nicking cars, the insurance pay out so that's OK.

Think your right there Norm.

O/T a bit, the police round our way can't even be bothered to trace a withheld phone call that could lead to 18 burgerlies being solved. Keep telling the person who got broken into it'll cost £1000 to make a trace, which is total rubbish.

So long as a crime report number is given out it's over to the insurance and they wipe their hands of it.

Hope the owner gets it back but i don't have a lot of faith these days.  Particularly when i see the same actions and hear the same stories on a daily basis.

Point of order, the owner thought his trailer was covered by his car insurance as it was hooked up to his towcar... he has now found out it ISN'T covered    :bangshead:  so check your policies people  ;)

I'm not a reactionary tory, far from it, but what annoys me is the punishment handed out by the courts when (if more like) the little barsteward is caught.

20 odd years ago, on a discussion about crime on R4 a chap in the studio with an oxbridge accident says "you should do as we do in my country, chop tghe left hand of perpetual thieves" There was a silence followed by Mrs Tory's shock horror at this barbaric punishment.

He calmly responded with "but you'll only have to do it twice and they get the message that you mean it"

He was so right. A friend of mine lost his wallet in Jeddah. He went to the Police station to report it. They asked him where he last had and he told them. "Go back there and look in the store and in the street outside. If you dodn't find it come back"He went back and there on the pavement outside M&S was his wallet. No one would touch it in case they were accused of theft.

When are we going to stop this lawlessness?
