redcarracer Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Bought a Red Top 20 for my Westfield 1700X/flow. Before I go to the trouble of replacing all the battery leads/terminals is it going to be up to the job. Stored over winter but used at least every fortnight in the summer. Just be glad of some advice please. Quote
Flat Eric Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Yes would think so. As, it's good enough for my V8, and friends with vauxhalls with injection. Quote
James Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I run with a red top 25 and no probs what so ever, just DONT let the battery completly discharge! they dont like it! Quote
StuartMackay Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 My supplier of the RedTop suggested disconnecting the leads if the car is not going to be used for a long period. The battery will retain its charge for a long period of time. I was told by Aesirpower that it is not recomended to use the optimate type of trickle charger over winter on Redtops/Odyssey gel batteries. My car has stood for weeks on end without a trickle charger attached and always has enough grunt. Quote
custardtart Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I had a 20 and found it useless compared to my bullet proof powervamp PV22. It couldn't cope with being left unplugged from a charger for any length of time and pretty quickly failed to hold any charge. I've had 2 powervamp PV22's in 6 years (apart from 3 months in between with the Varley) last year the car was taken out of winter storage (no battery charger) and hadn't turned over for 6 months, the battery was fine! http://www.powervampracing.com/powervamp_car_batteries.asp Quote
Mark B Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I may need a new battery myself, can anyone recommend a current supplier for a red top 20 or 25 with the best price please? Cheers, Mark Quote
peterg Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Give Ed Roller at Powervamp a ring, the Odyssey batteries are the same as Red Tops (they come out of the same factory) and he'll do you free delivery as a WSCC member Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Run the same 25 Red top Since 1999 on my EX 2.0 16v and since 2004 on my 4.6 V8 battery has covered around 28,000 miles its had 2 complete discharges but is still running strong... as far as I'm concerned the Redtop/Oddessey battery are tops Also use same on my Genesis race car Buzz Quote
