I'm after a couple of rears and I've just phoned my local Toyo appointed dealer and asked him for a price on R 888's - he said that Toyo have decided to only supply these via race meetings or tracks and he either couldn't source them or source them only with difficulty.

Is this true? surely not. Have I missed something?

There's been a thread on Blatchat about this recently, here's what Toyo replied about problems getting tyres from normal dealers:-

QUOTE
Spoken to the head of Motorsport at Toyo:

Its a directive from their European HQ that has told them to reduce the dealers down to just the motorsport dealers going forward to fall in line with the rest of Europe. You can find the dealers "Toyo 888 stockists" here and all the dealers should do mail order.

RRP for the 185/60/13 is £75.76 (inc VAT)

They do have some stock and more is coming.

Toyo can't do us (Lotus 7 Club of GB) a club discount but said that if enough of us got together they expected one of the dealers to do one (and this could cover the whole country through mail order)

Hope that helps... :t-up:

Demon tweeks still do them & so do camskill as far as I know if that's any help......

Can't imagine they'd do such a thing unless they wanted to put themselves out of business!

BMTR can supply

and if there is a WSCC Member willing to volunteer to organise a bulk buy for other WSCC Members - then there may also be an opportunity to provide a suitably discounted rate - However this would be a bulk buy only and for registered WSCC Members.  :)

Camskill get my vote. Bought a set only a few weeks, think the price was around £50 for a 185/60/13 too.

Etyres, the came out to my house and fitted full set  www.etyres.co.uk  , prices were fitted, great service, you might find supply only cheaper but then you have the hassle of getting them fitted

Got some in Derby from CTS - they managed to source some 205/60 r13 for me at a very, very good price.

01 332 290 699 ask for Darrren or Hans.

I have no connection with them apart from being a really satisfied customer.

And.

One more for consideration......

On a visit to Mid Devon tyres last weekend to have Toyo T1R's fitted to my daily driver, they said that they could order 888's. They also said that they could post them if you weren't local.

If there is any issue ask to speak to Lynn! Just for total transparency Lynn is my partners niece! I am not sure you could call that an interest but I thought I would declare it anyway.

Hope that this is helpful!

Andrew.

Be mindful that R888 are available in 3 compounds

SG - softest, perhaps not best suited for general road use, being soft they won't last very long

GGG - Medium Compound - should be o.k for longer track sessions

GG - Hardest compound - perhaps the one better suited for general road use

Got a quote this morning for GG from Camskill for 185/60/14 at £66 plus £2.45 del. Still have to pay for fitting.

Quote from Simply Tyres at £72 fitted.

Think I will avoid the problem of trapsing around fitting 'shops' and get Simply to fit   :t-up:
