smithaam Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Couple of questions about the Zetec. Got a 2L Zetec fitted quite nicely now in my westy it’s a silver top but was a new ex development engine from Morgon so unknown what year it is. What Starter do I need? If you’re looking from the front of the car the stator would be bottom right to suit the gearbox. Alternator is of the Mk5 Escort? Can someone confirm this? Also been told I need to change the fuel pump to an escort one? Why is this??? Also do I need a cat for the SVA or IVA it will be by the time I’m ready. I thought I would but not 100% as when I phoned the factory they quoted me 450 ish + Vat for the full system and I’m sure that’s without the cat. Thanks for your info Quote
smithaam Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 Well it was an XR4i which is the MT75 box but changed the housing so I could use a cable clutch Quote
bazz24 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 its the same kind of set up then mine , im not sure what the starter motor is from but i got mine from westfield (reconed unit ) .i dont know about the other Q but youll have to find out the age of the engine .other wise your car will be tested on the lower emmision test and you'll need a cat. do you have the log book for the car the engine came from Quote
smithaam Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 I got a friend who used to work for Morgan and I got the engine for him, its never been used in a car! I really have no idea of how old it is! Quote
bazz24 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 oh, does it have any letters or numbers on the head ,on the exhuast side at the gearbox end Quote
smithaam Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 Just had words with my dad and we are thinking it’s a year 2000 unit but we cannot be sure. It will have a engine number or something so will try have a look tomorrow. Quote
bazz24 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Just had words with my dad and we are thinking it’s a year 2000 unit but we cannot be sure. there should be 2 letters and a few numbers on it ,you can get hold of ford by email on coc@ford.com if you send them what letters and numbers you have on it they will check and send you any details ,just ask them to post it, as if its pre cat then you'll have to prove it at sva/iva test. if its a 2000 then you'll need a cat . i think if your engine is early 1992 then this will mean no cat is needed , i hope this help you , iv been all threough this my self ,and i hope i got it right Quote
smithaam Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 thanks will have a look tomorrow and give ford a shout. Quote

markcoopers Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I seam to remember this coming up before, so a quick search for Starter and Mt75 might be worth it. The Fuel pump is a new one on me, but a 1.8L waterpump is a normal suggestion. The 2L waterpump is driven by a serpentine belt layout in the original instilation hence when the altanator is fitted here in a westfield the waterpump is driven by a triangulated belt and it rotates the other way.....hence fit a 1.8L waterpump. While your at it, fit a 1.8 flywheel as well, much lighter. Quote
fatbaldbloke Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 And for good measure you might consider an 1800 oil pump...the filter adaptor is a bit shorter on the 1800 than the 2 litre so gives you a bit more room for the filter before it intrudes into the space required by the steering column. If you do a search there's lots of posts on the shortest filter available, plus the fitting of remote filters, etc. Quote
