DanB Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Get back to selling carpets! Who's going to be botherd to prosecute and who they going to prosecute? Indeed. I suspect the Information Commissioner (notoriously short of both staff and the power to do anything) probably has more important cases to deal with... Quote
RICHARD+PHILIP Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 of course you could put a sign up then park very close to the sign so it is obscured Quote
pistonbroke Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 What do the police say about this ? I assume you have spoken to them, crimewatch etc Quote
DanB Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 What do the police say about this ? (fingers in ears) 'La la la la, we can't hear you' I'd imagine... Quote
spence Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 What do the police say about this ? LOL come to my area, i'd like to know what the police actually do but that's for another thread. Not once have we ever been asked about signage etc etc etc when handing over CCTV footage. Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 At my local garden centre they sell micro wireless cameras for bird watching. Might work for you. Quote

Sorry , not regarding signage , I was aking what if any thing they have done / said regards the damage to the cars . I think if it was me I would be camping out in the car concealing a baseball bat (for defence purposes only ) Quote
SimonT Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I got one of those wireless cameras that Reaper shows and they're really good. I connect one end to the TV and place the camera where I want to monitor things. I've used it to watch my children at night when they're not well and for catching mice eating my cars in the garage! Colour image, sound and pretty good IR illumination at night. Pretty decent range as well (>30ft) through brick walls. Quote

congorobot Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 QUOTE Sorry , not regarding signage , I was aking what if any thing they have done / said regards the damage to the cars . I have not reported the damage to the police. They seem pretty useless round her from previous experience. Previously my wifes old car was bumped into at her gym. The guy wrote "sorry about the damage, signed it Colin an even put his phone number down. I gave him a call and after answering the call and finding out who I was, went silent when I asked for his insurance details before hanging up on me. We then spoke to the gym who after reviewing the cctv told us that they had captured the incident on tape but would only release it to the police. After scraping some Colin's paint off the side the car I went to the local police station. I gave them the guys phone number, the note, the paint, and informed them of the existence of the cctv footage. In response I was told off for my wife not reporting the incident herself, then told she would have to produce her drivers license, MOT, and insurance within the next 7 days. After she had done so we have never heard anymore on the matter. I don't think I will be taking that route again. It felt like we were the only ones they bothered to investigate. Ive very little faith in their motivation to investigate petty crime and vandalism. Reaper, that kit looks like the sort of thing that I want and at a good price, cheers! Quote
spence Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Lucky you don't live round my way. We have had 18 break in's in 4 weeks on my estate and my garage has also been 'had a go at'. After asking a few questions i've managed to get a few names. One of our new customers had a laptop stolen and was called up at 12.30 in the middle of the night by somebody knowing about personnel information and asking about a passcode. Needless to say the telephone number had been withheld. In the morning they phoned the police, who apparently had no information to go on after 18 break in's , and asked them to trace the call. They where then told they wouldn't trace the call as it cost £1000. How much it has cost and will cost to track these scoats must be running into many 10's of thousands. I could give you numerous stories but like i said before that's for another thread. Get your camera's find out who's doing it, then 'Do um down a dark alley'. Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 A mate some years ago had a drunk crash in to his car outside his house. The car was parked in the road but was watched by a CCTV camera. The event was caught on camera and he managed to stop the drunk getting away. He called the BIB and told them what had happened and showed them the footage. They was very pleased with the footage and said they would be using it in convicting the person as she was now claiming she was driving the car someone else was. The first thing they asked him after seeing the video was where the signs are for the camera. Unfortunately he did not have any and the video evidence could not be used. Quote
abbeya Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 It would be nice to catch the offenders and have them punnished / locked up / fined whatever. Reading the postings so far, and looking at the pictures, maybe you may have to settle for trying to prevent further damage - so maybe a CCTV sign might be enough to deter. The huge assumption I am making is that these low life can actually read. Quote
brianm Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I agree with Norm and Abbeya, get the sign up and a dummy camera first, cost less than a £10r. But as previously mentioned the sign is usually the 1st thing to go as these folks know the evidence is useless without compliance. I was responsible for the site secuity at our plant, must have replaced the 600 x 400 mm signs a dozen times. Plus all the footage used to show was some annonimous, hoodied and scarfed oaf ripping the security lamps and cameras of the building. This was a monitored system too but they knew the response time Quote
spence Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 This looks very authentic and no need for cabling. http://www.screwfix.com/prods....-Camera As does this one http://www.screwfix.com/prods....-Signs# Get a bit of Contractors conduit http://www.screwfix.com/prods....-x-20mm and run it into a plastic box. Something like this about 6" x 6" a good source is Edmundsons Electrical. http://www.euroboxenclosures.co.uk/polyester.php Run 2 black cables ( flex ) into the back through the conduit and nobody will no the difference Make sure it's tied at both ends so it can't be easily pulled. Also place the box where it looks like it can be cabled from the inside of a wall. Have seen some so obvious it would be impossible to cable to that point. Make sure the camera is aslo out of easy reach. Please don't put the flashing lights on though. Quote
