Spire Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 It started very badly with the fog lamp getting broken and then it only fired on 3 cylinders. The list of failed items is mainly small easy fix ones but to be honest with the emissions off the scale there was no point in doing all the small items there. Main items are emission noise limited demist rear fog interior mirror vibrating sharp edges flexible brake pipes more support on rear Other than getting the thing running correctly all the others can be fixed in a couple of hours. I said I would fail and I was only doing it now to beat the IVA test. The tester was very good and fair explaining all parts of the test. All in all enjoyed the day except I would have liked to drive the car back home but with the miss-fire it was not possible. Looks like Fish will beat back on the road........... Quote
jak Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Looks like Fish will beat back on the road........... Not to bad then Mark. I still reckon your could be on the road before Fish. PS. When would be a good time to drop off the windscreen pillars? John Quote
Spire Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 PS. When would be a good time to drop off the windscreen pillars? John Anytime I am normally home for around 7pm and should be in most of the weekend. Just give me a call when you are ready Quote
locost westie Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Hi mark, also took my car to Nottingham today, would have passed but had a problem with low effort on front brakes. All in all had a good day. Mick Quote
Spire Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 Hi Mick, Well done you did better than me, I thought the brakes might be a problem but were OK. Just wish the b****y thing would run OK Mark Quote
Mike Lloyd Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Well done Mark, doesn't sound too serious Keep the momentum and get the retest booked, spring is just around the corner Sorry we weren't much assistance on Sunday, Assume you have checked the obvious Earths! - HT Leads OK ( and connected in correct order) Coil Pack OK. There are two connectors on the coil pack and if I remeber correctly the two pin connector has an additional earth. Our car is in Darley bridge, you are welcome to try using any bits to eliminate components if this helps. Cheers Mike Quote
Spire Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 Thanks Mike, We did not have any spare spark plugs with us so could not test the obvious. Going to work through all the wiring at the weekend now the pressure of time is of so hopefully I can see what is wrong. Might need a megajolt expert Thanks again for the great offer of help, makes this club stand out from the rest. Mark Quote
markcoopers Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Good to hear that it is nearly done Mark, expect to see it at the odd show this year Quote
Spire Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 Good to hear that it is nearly done Mark, expect to see it at the odd show this year I will be there. Hope it lasts longer than your cars Quote
markcoopers Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 My cars are like triggers broom, few new engines here, new chasis there...but essentially the same car Quote
daveac Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Spire, My SVA approaches. What was the issue exactly with your rear flexi's? I'm worried mine may fail now. They just go straight from the bracket out to the caliper and clear the front of the fuel tank by about 2 inches. Did the examiner suggest what you should do about it? Cheers Dave Quote
Rory's Dad Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Spire - is your demist electric?? SVA man thought mine was u/s but I turned up at the second test having got it warm beforehand. It only pulls 60W so don't expect too much on a cold day. Rory's Dad Quote

Cheers Dave Hi Dave The pipes were not touching anything but he said he could push them to touch the tank. His "tip" was to tie them to the upper widhbone with rubber pipe and tie wraps. I would say enjoy the day, even if you fails it is only £40 for a retest and you know what to do. Hope this helps. Mark Quote

Thanks John I may take you up on the offer. I think there is a problem with the plug into the EDIs unit it does not seem to be a very good fit and there looks like corrosion on the pins. Need to check all the wiring again on Saturday Mark Quote
