JonnyB Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Hi all, I need to replace the flat(dead) battery. I currently have the Deta battery as supplied by Westfield. Has anyone gone a different route to this battery, if so which battery. Gel, Acid, Sealed, Unsealed ? too many options? The pride is running with a 2lt pinto if this makes a difference. Any on topic advice would be much appreciated. Cheers JB Quote
Asterix Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Start here, then find the cheapest UK provider for the battery you want. It will be worthwhile buying a charger to match the battery. Quote
peterg Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Powervamp deals on Odyssey batteries PVR25 will be what you want Quote
PeP Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Powervamp deals on Odyssey batteries PVR25 will be what you want I can vouch for the powervamp.Turns my 2.0 zetec over easily for far longer than I've ever needed. Quote
blankczechbook Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 std wet cell batteries can crack and drip acid on the passengers legs in an accident... mate had that happen to him in a tintop, ouch! gel cells are less likely but cost more. Quote
JonnyB Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 Thanks Guys, Looks like the powervamp it is then. JB Quote
dombanks Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 ive got an odesy one, sorry cant remeber the number, its great on my 2.0l zetec Quote
Gareth001 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 OK thanks for the information, although I've measured my old battery and it's none of the sizes that Powervamp do. Even though I have a 1998 Sport 2000 Vetec. I've got AllParts trying to find a battery for me currently - but half a week later and they are no closer. The dimensions of my current battery are in L x W x H: 24 x 14 x 18cm. Or 21cm lenght if you discount the tab at the bottom. Is there a known mainstreem car that has the same battery size as the Westfield? Therefore I can just ask for one that "fits" say a Focus? Quote
adam1330 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 The old battery on my 1998 car was a BMW bike battery, but I stuck an Odyssey PC680 in mine, was virtually the same size in all dimensions except its width, but it was easy enough to move the bracket, just had to drill a new hole. Quote

Gareth001 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Why would you want a big, heavy car battery? Makes sense to have a bike battery I know, but I would rather not go drilling extra holes in the car if not needed. I guess worst case Westfield should be able to provide one? Quote
chappers Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I guess worst case Westfield should be able to provide one? Only if you go and pick it up as they are not sent through the post IIRC. Like Adam1330, I swapped my Deta battery for an Odyssey PC680. Only required a new hole drilled in the battery tray to move the bracket over. Gel battery is way lighter than the Deta one and has better performance. Easy choice IMO, though a bit more expensive than the Deta lead/acid battery. Quote
dhutch Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Powervamp deals on Odyssey batteries PVR25 will be what you want Yeah, i have a Powervamp PVR25 on the CVH, seams to do the trick. - Its not a lightening turn over when the engines hot, but its never failed me yet, and i dont know how old/worn it is as it came with the car.
