iiyama Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Regardless of where they are or are not from, its OK for a black guy to call another black guy a niger. However if a white guy calls a black guy a niger then all hell breaks loose. I believe the Carol Thatcher comment was along the lines of he/she has hair like a golliwogg. If that person had black hair that stood straight then where's the problem? That person could be white or black or indeed any other colour! Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 It's getting to the point where we are becoming so politically correct that I'm finding it hard to know what is an insult and what isn't. When it is fact or a generalised truism I really can't see the problem. e.g. Scotsman being tight , Italians fashionable, French lazy etc etc Also a lot of words get abbreviated. As a country we are well known for our friendly sense of humour and names and self depreciation are part of that. Just remember back twenty years ago to all the Englishman, Irishman and Scotsman jokes. Why is it insulting to call a Pakistani a **** for example but not insulting to call a Scottish person a Scot or a British person a Brit. Another good example was when Brundle was criticized for referring to Pikeys. I agree with the commment it's not always what you say but the intent behind what you say and in the media it's hard to assess that. Personally Clarkson has just said what we all think and I'm sure most of us just saw it as knocking Brown as an idiot not an insult on Scots or the blind. Quote
James Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 IMO people are just too b****y sensative these days! I cant stand political corectness infact I totaly disagree with it. I always say how I feel sure some people dont like it, but they always no where they stand with me. As far as Clarkson's coment is concerned right on! he is Scotish! He has one eye! and HE IS AN IDIOT! he is also a polatician and this goes with the territory so GET OVER IT! Quote
