gee_fin Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 While one on one side of the family was touring Germany as a (Scottish) concert pianist the another on the other side was about to get locked up in a concentration camp and write his account of it! (got to scan and add that in the future...) Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 IWould be very interested to see the Clark photo's perhaps you could post them up here or even email to me. Here you go: I am fairly sure that this is the 2 litre V8 Climax that Clark was using before the BRM H16 was available. In fact I think there was a H16 engine in the back of a transporter on the day with a large hole in the block. Lurksalot Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Top man Paul , I believe that that was the very first motor racing event that I ever attended. My dad worked at Hailwood and was given granstand tickets ,opposite the pits , It was an incredible event and firmly instilled the petrol in my veins Quote
KerryS Posted January 28, 2009 Author Posted January 28, 2009 Considering that F5000 was supposed to be the F1 "training ground" none of the entrants made much of a mark on F1 subsequently. And can anyone identify the Elf branded car in my second photo? It's not a Renault as I have another picture of that at same event and it's different. Quote
pistonbroke Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Considering that F5000 was supposed to be the F1 "training ground" none of the entrants made much of a mark on F1 subsequently. Errm you never heard of Peter Gethin then ? Humbled the whole lot of them at Brands F5000 cars where big , fast, noisey, hairy and relativley inexpensive with great drivers like Gethin, Mike Hailwood , Brian Redmond etc who all went to F1 They ought to sack F1 as it is now and revive the formula Quote
pistonbroke Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Jackie Stewart in the H16 BRM at the same meeting this was the first outing for the H16 Early days David Purley with his F3 Brabham the guy with the briefcase is Mike Earl who became his team manager , Wife Sue on the right . Quote
