Gas Bill Metric or imperial

Sorry if this has already been posted!

Just had the winter gas bill today ... £664.76.

I nearly had a heart attack.

After some serious Internet searching I found the conversion to take the metre reading to kWh. And on first inspection it was correct. Then I found a site warning of Metric metres and Imperial and the Utility services overcharging.

Turns out my metre is metric and my bill is overcharged by 3x.

This isn't the only bill I've questioned direct with them to be told, maybe you should get your boiler checked it may be over using gas.

Turns out this was on watch dog last week and there are thousands (maybe) 1 million other people being DONE by utility companies.

How many people, I wonder, are there that are not aware of this and just paying up to these idiot companies making money hand over fist?

Suppose only good thing is I'm due one hell of a rebate from these robbing A*** holes!

Hi Stu which site did you use? and how do you convert cubic metres to kWh? my bill is no where near yours but still worth keeping an eye on the robbing b******s.

not the site I used as I found out about the watchdog report after. But they have all the info and conversion factors.

I know mine will be sorted tomorrow but my bloods boiling that these b****y companies get away with this crap!

Thanks Stu just done the calc . they are only half a unit out, but doing that to a few million customers must put a few extra shillings in the bank. Funny how it's always rounded up and never down.

Isnt it amazing they can charge 2.262p with a correction factor of 1.02264 but they can use a decimal point on the kWh used?

I discovered just before Christmas that my leccy meter hasn't moved since mid September. Knackered meter. I'm just waiting for a horrendous estimated bill. No doubt they'll try and turn it to their advantage.

Just to try and cool your boiling blood... the reason the "robbing A*** holes" have incorrect details is because when a consumer has a new metric meter fitted and then moves from one company to another the companies don't always pass on the detail that the meter has been changed.

The blaime could be aimed at your previous supplier for not passing on all your details to the new company.

Anyway, I hope you get it all sorted quickly and get a rebate for previous bills.  :t-up:

But, the huge increase noted by their computer could be flagged to send out a letter asking you to report back on what meter you have installed.

Now, I wonder why they don't programme that in......

We had this 18 months ago  - got a bill for £1800 after a meter reading.

Quick phone call and it was all sorted in 5 mins though.

That would be the case if the house wasn't only 7 years old and brish gas were not the original supply company.  :bangshead:

1m^3 = 35ft^3

So i guess they get the decimal place in the wrong place, using the wrong units, hence 3.5x over.

Whatever next, incopetance. Thats what it is.

Checked back with suppliers, over the last 7 years billing.

They gave me the metre readings and I converted the price. All apart from the last 4 British gas bills are OK. It seems they changed their computer system along with the people who tell them what metre is installed.

Luckily I am on business contract so have a personal contact / account manager to sort it out!

Could have really done without the hassle of spending 2 hours on the phone!    :bangshead:
