pistonbroke Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Me and her indoors decided a new lounge sofa is required as the old one is ermm, well, old ! so far (pun intended) the leather sofa places we have looked at all seem to be much of a muchness, the bulk of these offering various styles of reclining models , either manual or electric. swmbo has singled a model out from "world of leather" but I have doubts about the durability of the reclining mechanism and the way these products are put together doesn't seem to be very substantial. one company, CLS , give a five year manufacturers warranty but seem to charge more for a similar product up front than those offering the standard 12 months product warranty . If anyone has any experience of these, good or bad I would be pleased to here your comments Thanks Quote

shelly Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I would never have a reclining sofa again as they are ok sitting in a chair but you cannot get comfortable lying down on the settee. Ours is falling to bits we have had it 5 years and it was about £1500.00. I suppose if you spend more you would get something to last a bit longer but I wouldn't go for a recliner again. The chair is ok though!! Good luck! Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 We got one 4 years ago from DFS (yeah I know) we searched and searched and the only one that ticked all the boxes was the one we bought. From day one the l/hand recliner (manual) didnt feel right, when you operated it it felt different from the R/hand one, after a couple of weeks it stopped working, so we contacted DFS and asked for it to be exchanged. The manager swore blind it was very unusual for these to go wrong, it was something simple and once fixed it wouldn't bother us again, so we let them do it, bad move, For the next 3 years every couple of months it stopped working, the R/hand one never gave any trouble, to be fair to them they allways got the maintenance man out quick to fix it, we ended up on first name terms After 3 years they started to say it's out of warranty, I told them the fault was present at delivery and they came out. After numerous letters to the Customer relations dept, they agreed to give us another years warranty. Now I shouldn't say this, but it hasn't given any trouble now for almost a year, so maybe the last fix solved the problem, but why did it take them 3 years to get it right Having said all that, it still looks a good as the day we bought it, it's comfy, and it still ticks all the boxes. Were we just unlucky I dont know, but at the mo all seems fine Quote

samcooke Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 If you buy from a decent shop you'll get a decent product, if you buy from DFS or land of leather or whoever, you might be lucky, you might not. Get down to John Lewis or somewhere. What was it Rolls-Royce said : The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten. Something like that. Quote
