wacomuk Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 has anyone had any experience with cheaper tool chests? is it worth spending more or are the cheaper adequate ? ARGOS CLICKY Quote
judder Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Can't get the page up It depends on what your expecting really I bought a cheap one for £70 from my local hardware retailer and it was like the Machine Mart varient with 7 drawers. Works well enough for me - obviously the money is in the drawer runners and mine arn't as smooth as the could be. Quote
chazpowerslide Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Halfords have a 9 draw bottom and 7 draw top combo on for 199.99 from their professional range. I'm tempted................. The Ebay one does not look too bad either.............. Chaz. Quote

Matt Seabrook Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 My first tool chest was a cheep one when I was an apprentice. It lasted me six years of daily use. All I would say is get one that the draws feel nice in operation as this is a real bug bear of mine. I am not saying they have to be on roller bearings just open and close without snagging. My first tool box was a Task Master box from Brown Brothers my current tool box is a Snap-on box and a little bigger. The box is six foot wide and seven foot tall. When I fill this box up I will get some side cabinets to fit to the ends. This box is half way up the Snap-On Master range. Quote
Johnson Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 I was going to say its worth talking to your local Snap On dealer as they are always taking part exs on larger tool chests. As Matt has done I always upgraded my tool boxes with the Snap On man. Upgraditis doesnt stop with Westfields Quote

The Ebay one does not look too bad either.............. Chaz. Mate has one and they are spot on for the money plus they often do deals on them, either buy the big box get the second one at half price or they through in some of the professional range tool trays which again are more than adequate for the weekend tinkerer and come with a life time gaurantee Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 I like to think of it as my very own big black box Quote
carpetstu Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Got my snap on from the Local dealer. It was an part ex and in fantastic condition! Paid less than half of the normal retail cost, and its probably worth more still now should I ever wish to sell it! Quote
JEM Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 I also use Snap On in work, but find Machine Mart good quality for the money at home. Its got to be roller bearing draws for me though. Quote

Got it as part of an offer they were running last year and have to say I am very happy with it, seems like a quality bit of kit for what I paid!! Quote
