dombanks Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 ive seen some ice about before but today was nuts anyone had any interesting experiences today? the fronterra was hillrious. pretty much everyone at work had some sort of slidy moment. Quote
Norman Verona Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 HM went into town and saw a small white car (Pug 206?) coming towards her at a rapid rate. She pulled over and watched in her mirror as he failed to make the turn and skidded into the ditch. She walked back to make sure he was OK. He wanted her to and ask the farmer to pull him out with his tractor. I can't repeat her answer. She pretty good at French. Quote
dhutch Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Its bad isnt it. - I actually fell over today walking to the garage, and the tried to push the car from the trailer to the garage and couldnt. As i type this is picking up time at the nursary next door and just about ever car has wheel spon through two or three gears before darting down our country road at 60 to get back on the a49. Martin Keene Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I got more than slightly sideways on the enterance road to work this more, only at about 10 mph as well... Tomorrow's probably going to be worse! I didn't see any accidents though. Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Bad here again, make sure you are careful when walking, the misses came a real cropper just before Christmas, quick hospital visit and all OK, but only just got the feeling back in her front teeth 4 weeks after. Quote
JEM Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 The road leading up to my work premises was lethal this morning. There's a guy who just moved in next door who owns a plant firm, must have been travelling about 40 mph, braked into a skid and went straight through his new fence in his Ford Ranger. ooops Quote
spence Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Had a bit a slide today. Was coming up to a T junction going down a hill in a country lane. Saw what looked like black ice under some unmelted snow, so slowed right down to a crawl. This was mid afternoon and everywhere else the snow etc had melted. 1st gear wasn't enough to slow the van so carefully applied the brakes and they locked up ( ABS was pointless to say the least ). It just started sliding so i grabbed the handbrake and basically slid the van round the corner . If i hadn't had done that i'd have just slid straight across T junction. Luckily nothing was coming at the time. Be careful out there guys and girls. Quote
Glen H Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Not seen any incidents or near misses but did give the kids a few handbrake spins on a empty weekend overflow car park at the local sports centre Quote

Lurksalot Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 One of our lads comes to work on his motorbike and came out with a good line ....... you don't have to be able to go fast to prove you can control your bike .... A great comeback to us track day boys especially when the fastest of the track boys managed to bend his car on the way into work Quote
