aerosport Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 hi, i want to buy myself a westfield but i don't know which one to choose, i have 2 main options - an aerosport 2.0 duratec (with windscreen and weather gear +some handling upgrades) - a megabusa (same options as the duratec) much cheaper well because i have no experience with these kind of cars i think this is pretty much the place to ask the question: which one should i buy? i want to use it mainly on the road for some spirited driving and also take it to a few trackdays and the nurburgring from time to time. i'm a little afraid the megabusa isn't as solid as the duratec, and only build for the track (not easy to drive at cruising speeds etc. due to the engine+ seq gearbox) and which one of these is fastest btw? Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 First off, I have to admit - I've never driven a Megabusa; I have had an, admitedly, brief go in a sequential boxed "car engined car", it's potential brilliance on track was obvious. Personally, on the road, for my brief drive, I loathed it. And of course there's so much else thats very dofferent between the two. But that's the point, it's such a personal thing - I've met and talked to plenty of bike engined "seven type" car owners, who, for road and track go all misty eyed and take on an air of the zealot when they start chatting about Busas/Blades and so on. By all means gather as many oppions as you can, but the only way to decide for sure is to try them and see which one you could live with. (And if you've never driven a sequential boxed car before, try and get some instruction on how to use it as well as a decent length test drive!) Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 If your a mentalist and can afford the potential of fixing/replacing your bike engine then you will love the bike motors ... no bigger bang per buck If you are like me, have a little bit of common sense and want to use it on the road frequently, then go for the duratec ...i have just gone out for a 30 minute blat and have a smile on my face despite having little feeling in my fingers Duratec was my choice, but I am a fairly sensible sorta guy Quote
perksy Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Have you driven them both for a few miles and if so which felt the best to drive This will really come down to personal choice and what feels best for you For primarily Road use with perhaps the ocassional track day i'd go with the Duratech For mainly Track days the Busa Beware you'll probably get plenty of opinions on this one Quote
hogman Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Oh oh here we go again! Well despite Cleggys opinion I have run a bike engined westie for nearly 6 years - not a problem at all and most of my miles were on the road with 3 trackdays. The car never missed a beat, very reliable, very fast and perfectly happy on the road. Try them both before you make a snap decision based on others opinions. I have had both car engined and bike engined westies, both have plus and minus points, so depends on the style of driving you prefer. Have a good go in both and then see which one puts the biger smile on your face (if its no the BEC I would be surprised). As for having fix the bike engine all the time - nope they are as reliable as any tuned car engine, with both BEC and CEC westies both needing engines to be properly sorted. Dont be "scared" off the BEC route by tales of blowing engines, difficult to drive etc - these tales are exactly that - tales normally told by people who dont really know what its like to own a BEC! Went to a recent track day, got talking to a few guys about their cars, in total 4 car engined cars went pop none of the bike engined ones did! Yes there was more car engined cars there but still the BECs aint as fragile as you may well be lead to believe! Try em both see what you like to drive and buy one and dont worry about scare stories. One thing to consider, when buying a tuned engine whether car or bike, these will need maintenance and the odd rebuild - but thats what you get for tuning engines - stress on the engine and more issues but alot more power! Well thats my 2p! Quote
