Westfield Dry Sump Oil Tank thread sizes?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to fit plugs into the bottom and sides of my Westfield supplied dry sump oil tank.  The tank is already fitted to the car and I want it to stay there.  :D  Anyone know what size the bottom and lower side ports are?  Lastly, what size is the male threaded port to accept an oil temperature gauge?

Thanks in advance.

I took a shot of my oil tank just in case it looks different.

Hi Hank,

I dont have the details to hand but have got them at work and I will be there later so if no one has posted with the answers I will put them on here for you.

Ok the bottom fitting is M10 X 1.00mm taper and the one above is 3/8 BSP.

I have the top one blanked off and an oil temperature sender in the bottom one(VDO sender).

Hope that helps

Thanks for the help.

But wait, there's another fitting on the very bottom of the oil tank, and it's bigger than M12?!  Do you know what that one is?

By the way, it was a real challenge finding a 3/8" BSP cap in the States, but suprisingly McMaster Carr had it!   :blues:

If you mean the very bottom of the tank thats the drain plug,I recognised the plug as a Ford sump plug.

I cant think of any other take offs other than that.

If it is the drain a sump plug and washer from any Escort or Mondeo if you have them over there will do.

Damnit.  The 3/8 BSP cap only threads on 2 revolutions.  After that it won't move.  Maybe Westfield sent a b*****d fitting for the US?  I realize I'm whining but every single thing is hooked up on the car and ready to crank.

Also, FWIW, I purchased both size Ford Escort oil drain plugs yesterday and they don't work either.  Tom @ Manic Technologies in the US is tracking down the correct bottom fitting.

I know the feeling i have been waiting for my dash loom and an oil pressure sensor for weeks.Mine is ready to start but cant because of those bits.  Can you post a pic of the bottom fitting. I am about 200 miles from my car at the moment so cannot check anything but pics might help.

Praise Jesus I got 2 out of 3 fittings to work!   :p

The very bottom bung (oil drain) takes a M14x1.5 bolt.  I put a copper crush washer and teflon tape for safe measure.  The US Ford Escort drain plugs are too small.

The bottom bung on the side of the tank is indeed 1/8" NPT.  That is the most common temperature probe size.  I thought it might be M10x1.0 and that would have taken an adapter.

The top bung on the side of the tank is still baffling.  It won't accept a 3/8" BSP cap.  Any other guesses?

Thats weird Hank,I got the thread pitch for the temp sender from the VDO sender supplied by Westfield.

The 3/8 BSP cap was from Think Auto here part no BCS3-6

Hank, it might be 3/8" NPT or perhaps you were accidently sent a 3/8" NPT fitting rather a BSP.  The fittings are very similar, but not exact - the taper angle pitch count, and thread shape are all slightly different (this site does a good job explaining those differences).  You should be able to find a cheap 3/8 NPT fitting at your local hardware store and then test fit that to see if it is a match.

Woo whooo!!!!  3/8" NPT it was.  A few wraps of Teflon tape, the cap was turned until handtight, and final turns by my trusty channelocks and my oil tank is ready for a temperature probe & oil.  The probe arrives in the mail next week.

Thanks for the help guys!
