Pilot Pete Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Seen a 460bhp scooby around Elvington and NOTHING could keep up with it including the Westies and Aerial Atom there. I think 300 bhp and 1100kg would be quite fun myself, different to the westie yes, but still fun. Got an insurance quote for the scooby incase I decide to keep it on the road - yikes - £622! Only pay £112 for my Westie! As for other cars - Skylines are out - too expensive, dont like the 200sx and cant find any Cossie Sierras or Escorts to play with either. Hmmm decisions decisions! All depends on drivers though really. I mean I've overtaken a radical SR3 in me dads pinto, doesn't make it faster than an SR3 though! Quote
nikpro Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Scoobies and EVO's don't make the best track cars - they are expensive to mainatain and not particularly quick. You need to go for a cheapish car that your not going to be frightened of pushing. Seven's are ideal. Honda integra is superb as are the older accords/civics. Pug 205's or MX5's are very good too! hogman Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 Hi Nikpro You mentioned you thought the scoobies and evos are quite slow track day cars but then suggest an Pug 205 or mx5? Naaaah If i did swop to something different it would have to be rwd or 4wd, dont think I could put up with fwd cars again. Decisions decisions Quote
hogman Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 Of course another option would be to keep the westie and buy another just for track days, buy a cheap one strip it out and abuse it! Quote

Decisions decisions MX5 is RWD (Think you would be surprised at what a race preped MX5 can lap in and thats with a 'bog standard' 1.6 engine - it costs very little to uprate the engine to 180 bhp and you still have a seasons trackday money left over from not choosing a scoobie) I think if you spoke to several track day instructors they would give you an honest answer as to what the best type of trackday car to purchase would be. Try a post on Pistonheads asking for advice from them as they will give an unbiased account. Quote
