Looking to replace the existing strap accross seat belt, any ideas on which harness type to have, and what i should be looking for, normal use no racing, well maybe a little when the weather warms up.

Load of sabelt harness around. Mine seams to work.

- Most people use a 4point, as does mine currently, but if you have more relined seating you should maybe be looking at a 6point?

Schroth are my recommendation and four point is what you are likely to need. I have a six point harness for extra support

I recenly changed to Sablet and received excellen service direct from Steve, who happily advised on the pro's n con's of the various designs, widths, fixing methods etc. Very happy with the result.

Does your car have the 3 mount fitting (older ones) or 4 mounts?

I would advise a 3" wide shoulder strap, even if not the lap part, especially if on the track. Not critical but for a tad extra it would be worth it should you have a missfortune to call upon them.

You want the lap adjusters to work pulling to the center and not away from you. Also something to keep the shoulder straps ends tied down, they have a habit of flying around in the breeze.

Agree with Mark

Go for the 3" wide harness if possible    ;)

Had 2" wide Sabelts on my old car and the

3" wide Willans i have now are alot better imho

(feel alot more secure, especially if 'pressing on' abit      )

Sounds like i'll be getting myself a set of 4 point 3" Sabelt then,  thanks for all the advice and pointers.  :D

By all means shop arand and if the 2" will be enought, then don't let me talk you out of it and spend unnesseserily. I had a bit of a miss hap in one of mine on track, hence the 3" shoulder straps from my point of view.

I know that I am a candidate for the golden shovel if I post in this thread but I don't want to open a new one  :p

On my upgrade list, I would like to set new harnesses in my ZEI. Current ones are Willans 4 points but old and 2" wide.

I will maybe go for sabelt : as here

I want 3" width for the shoulders, but I hesitate for the width of the lap : 2" or 3" ? What works best for a 99% road use car.

Thank you

I went for Sabelts - 3" on both shoulder and laps in mine. Old ones were 2" all round. I don't find the 3" laps any problem as the webbing is relatively soft and easy to adjust. I'm just about to add crotch straps, mainly to stop the buckle riding up to my stomach when tightening the shoulder straps.

I've got 3" Sabelts which are really comfortable.  I think if I had my time again that I'd go for the Caterham version which are bolt-down and not clip-on but otherwise just the same (I think).

(Edited to acknowledge that you have!!  I got mine from Demon Tweeks at the Racing Car Show a bit cheaper.  I also seem to remember that there is a Sabelt person around who can get them even cheaper.)

Doing them up is a bit of a faff but it's well worth the effort  :)  :)  :)
